Evo MR write up in Road & Track
Blonde, I semi-agree with your logic. Sure, if you plan on changing absolutely everything on the car, then it might make more sense to buy a normal VIII, especially if you already have one. But, what if you take, what some consider to be, a better platform (with the 6mt, lighter stock weight etc...) and mod that? It could be concieved that you'd end up with at least a marginally better result. Then again, maybe I'm just being picky! I plan on staying with the stock turbo, whether I stay with my current EVO or trade for the MR. I dunno, I really am not one of these "need to be the cool kid with the new hot ****", just milling things around in my head a bit, anyway it looks like we have a while before it's actually released so we'll see.
I wouldn't count on the S-AYC unless Mitsu figured out the packaging issues with it and the ORVR (On-board Refueling Vapor Recovery) system required in the US. But where there's a will there's a way...

but again, it all depends on the person and i can see how some might view the MR as the best thing to happen to the world of automotive.
The aluminum roof is very cool, because you loose the weight exactly where you don't want it, high up in the vehicle, therefore lowering the cars center of gravity. That's why I got a non-sunroof Evo.

very good point though...
You do realize that aluminum can be just as strong as steel and lighter. Look at the Audi A8 for example, all aluminum and passes all U.S. crash tests. What's so wrong with aluminum, it's not soda cans we're talking about here? What do you think several of the Evo suspension parts are made of?

I was just about to say that, just like the Jaguars, it's all aluminum and it's still safe.
I wear a aluminum helmet and throw myself off my roof everytime i see or read a article about the MR or a newer model. So its like 5 times a day and I have yet to crack my skull. So its definately safe.

4kg on the roof really isn't much of a weight reduction (minor performance upgrade), again, go on a diet if you really want a weight reduction (if you're obese). believe me, your car will run alot faster. there are many other things you can do to reduce the weight of your evo other than that stupid roof. and by the way, evo mr is very unlikely to hit the u.s. shores; so whether you are a current evo owner, a prospective owner, enthusiasts or just interested, keep waiting and dreaming.

didn't use Adamantium for the roof or the whole car
It's pretty light I gather from seeing Wolverine flinging those things around like chopsticks and it's indestructable too

Thanks for the tip, as I am on a diet for just that reason. But I totally disagree with you about the roof weight. If you want to lower the vehicles center of gravity, which in turn will give it better handling, where exactly do you want the weight to disappear from? High up in the chassis, like the roof, which is exactly why I bought a non-sunroof Evo.

hey, no problem with the tip. glad you liked it. sun roof, no sun roof, or no roof, who gives a damn. how much faster is your evo compare to an evo with sun roof? does your evo handle much better than the one with the sun roof? if so, how much better? unless you're a pro racer who takes his evo to the race track, and where every tiny bit of weight counts, all that roof thing doesn't make sense for a street car which most people drive daily.
