If you plan on beating on the car then go for an RS and mod it. Why pay more for a car if its going to get beat up. Chances are high that the car is going to break many parts but on the other hand, resale value would be better having the options. As far as the MR, I agree thats just a notch up of the EVO but I like having a more rigid car as far as the roof is concerned. I like the 6 speed figuring that the overdrive will save me on gas mileage but I am not sure about that yet.

The MR has G-d (physics) and corporate suspension development on it's side.

Now that's a tough combo to beat.

You don't really need "exotic" just a quality coilover set-up tuned by someone who knows what they are dooint. It probably matters little really, as the majority of MR's will never see a track, or be driven to within 90% of their real limits.

Well, unfortunately it's more than the coilovers i was referring to...

The key advantage of the MR out-of-the-box is a lower center of gravity thanks to the aluminum roof and the aluminum bars within the door.

And I can't speak for others, but my car will see track time... ahh, when the warranty's expired... .

But, unfortunately, most cars designed for extreme performance, live maily in a garage or drive on mundane roads the rest of their lives.

The 05 RS also has the aluminum roof and bars . It has all the new parts except the 6 speed.
as for the suspension, either JICs are MR take offs will do the trick.

I also dont intend on selling the car anytime soon. i will have too much money in it after i am done.

Really, the RS has the aluminum bits?

Hmm, I could get an RS the upgrade to Zeals or Ohlins...

And what about the motor? Its the same too, right?

Then perhaps '05 RS maybe the money.

Circumstances beyond Mitsubishis control may have forced the MR style lights not to come to be due to DOT regulations, but all the whining over not having leather seats available?

As was said earlier, Type one:

1) Unreasonable with something about the MR and willing to openly make a fool out of themselves.

I call into question someone's age and experience with buying cars with silliness like this. Leather could be added to virtually any car at any time, and we've done it with one day turnarounds before. Try adding an ACD to a car, or a 6 speed. I just can't understand how cosmetic trinkets outweigh the hard mechanical bits and engineering that have gone into the MR, and so many have judged it before we've even had an opportunity to see how GOOD it is.

The more I think about it, I'd prefer a regular '05. Simply because the 6sp doesn't mean that much to me, and I do want a sunroof. Also I'm thinking that if the MR did have special lights, and wing it would be the target of so many low lifes who'd rip them off the first chance they'd get since they are SO terribly important to so many people. And if all people care about is being "better" because they're special, you just KNOW that more then half of them are goning to be gray, so you'll still be able to spot the car a mile off. I guess I better ask the parts manager to stock up on MR decals.

I am not trying to start anything but this statement didn't make any sense. Your telling me if I reflash the computer, change the intake and exhaust (since you said upgrade the motor) on a regular Evo that my performance won't be up there with the USDM MR? If I upgrade my suspension to a Zeal or Ohlins, that the handling is not as good as the MR? I agree about the cosmetics. It is not that important and the MR has a better powertrain, but when I reread the post, it kinda made me say "whaaa"

You are absolutely right... what I wanted to say was handling since the MR will have an inherently lower center of gravity since it has the aluminum roof and side beams...

But I guess the RS will have that too.

Using performance as a word choice was my bad...

And I'm thinking about getting an RS... though I really would like one in silver... and upgrading the suspension and slapping a TME turbo on...

If not trying to reproduce the Xtreme VII SC... but and VIII RS version .

Wow..I need to spend more time on the "MR" threads because I am freaking SHOCKED at what I have just read here.

No blacked out lights??

No black alcantra Recaros???

What else is it missing??

Unfortunately, these "little cosmetic things" that seem unimportant to some, are really important to me. When you already own an EVO, getting a new one for lots more $$$ certainly makes you wish that the new one had lots more stuff to set it apart as well..

I'm bummed. And I think my next call is to pass on the "MR"..

Ever more confused

Doesn't seem like the SAYC is coming. Just the ACD.

Does anyone if the MR is actually going to have a larger turbo?

In MITSU news release it seem that all the models will have the same turbo and waste gate....

The only thing I think the MR or MR Edition shouldn't have a that stupid vortex generator or whatever the fock that thing is called. That looks stupid as hell...The only thing I can think of is that it smashs bugs before they get to the CF spoiler!

Some of you are weird, why would you want to loose big money for upgrading from standard evo 8 to evo MR. I hope you know the MR is actually an evo 8.5. You don't even have to see the car to know the std evo and MR is essentially the same vehicle with few differences. Otherwise, Mitsubishi would named the MR as EVO IX. Do you think its logical to trade in a 2004 accord lx for a 2005 accord ex??? Do you throw away your Pentium IV 3.0 processor and "upgrade" to a 3.2 processor?

A had a '03 Evo. I'm "upgrading" to an MR. I would hardly compare a 6-speed tranny, ACD, aluminum roof, Bilsteins, upgraded turbo, and forged wheels the same thing as going from a Pentium 3.0 to a 3.2.

Totally different beast...
