Can an evo tune itself ?

Ok guys, let's see your take on this. I have an 03 evo, mods are TBE, Short AEM intake, fuel pump. Got it dyno flashed and it put out 305 WHP @ 24 psi 100 oct, (give or take). Never did i tune it again.

6 months later i put hks 272's and the car felt slower than a snail race. Then 2 months later i went with a bigger intercooler and the car pulls like a raped ape. I dont get it. One of my tuners said that the intercooler causes the car to go lean, but as i understand, the cams makes it go pig rich. Is it possible that the intercooler leveled the a/f mix out and the car produces more power. I'm sure theres room for improvement and i'm getting an update on my flash, but still, my car feels pretty solid. I have no clue what whp i'm throwing or what my a/f is. What's your though on this ?

Dont evo's of that year and those mods usually make that kinda power on 91 pump @ 21 psi with a reflash? Or am I missunderstanding something?

edit: Sorry for side-tracking your thread.

You need a re-tune. Guessing what your a/f ratio is pretty risky.

You really need to get it tuned. Those numbers seem low for the mods on the car with 100 oct. What kinda of dyno did you use?

you would need a re-tune anyway for the cams so do it even if you think your a/f ratio is fine, because if its not and your running too lean kiss your motor goodbuy after a while of hard driving

The stock EVO ECU is load based which will tune some, but if the maps it has are not proper for your setup then it will not self tune to the point of where you need to be.

It is really hard to say if a better IC will make you go lean by X amount and cams will make you go rich by Y amount. Better get it tuned. Although it is not impossible to install cams and not get a tune, but for the best bet you want a tune to bring out the best of your mods.

I laugh at all the tune suggestions. I say make sure the cams were installed correctly first.
