Accessport right for me?

Its a PITA doing research from Iraq, since it takes forever to load this site... so after an hour, I'm just going to ask.

I have an Evo IX. When I get back I plan to do the following
Currently I have an e-cut out QTP pipe with stock exhaust, mbc, fujita intake/uicp, licp, 255 pump, ebay 02, etc.

I plan to add some cams (S1s or Cosworth 272s), meth injection with an on/off switch.

I want to switch on the fly from "daily driver mode" to "race mode" with out a laptop.

Daily driver mode = stock boost setting, QTP flap closed, meth inj OFF.

Race Mode = higher boost, QTP pipe open, meth inj ON.

Please advise me if the access port would meet my needs for engine management. It appears that it would, but I'm not really certain. How fast is "on the fly" map switching? A few seconds? Instantly?

Thanks for any help!

On the fly switching only takes 1-3minutes....sometimes less if it is realtime map on top of the base map

it may be more convienent to use the AP for this vs. having a laptop to do switching of maps with...but that is subjective and there are people who would not agree and say the laptop way is just as easy.....so it's up to your preference.

by the time you get back home the protune software for the AP will be out...which you will need for those mods you listed....so yeah it will cost you more to go the AP route vs. open source.

it depends on what you want to do and what you're willing to spend.

by now the verdict is out that it seems the AP custom tuning route does everything open source can do...it was even confirmed that "blow thru" is possible.

hope that helps....good luck

Just want to mention that instantaneous map switching via a dash-mounted toggle switch or via a (meth) failsafe will be available via ECUFlash very shortly.

That is great news will it work for a e85/gas tune?

Yes. Most people are looking to use it as a meth failsafe, but my intent is to use it in conjunction with a flex fuel sensor to create a true flex fuel setup. All the hardware issues have been worked out. Just a matter now of setting up interpolation between pump gas and E85 maps based on the flex fuel sensor signal. Probably a few months away.

I have time to wait too. I'm very curious to see how you work out the E85 flex fuel deal.

That is good news, I have an e85 station 3 miles from my house.
