Lifter tick should go away after the engine has warmed. Also it's a definite ticking noise, as opposed to other engine issues which can either be felt at the same time and/or more likely to increase / decrease in volume with engine speed.
If yours is louder some days then others I'd say it is lifter tick, and the difference is just the outside temperature. Only way to know for sure would be to get a compression check and / or pull your lifters and have them cleaned.

The 4G has loud lifters. Regardless if the car is warm or cold they will tick. When a lifter goes you will hear it....its EXTREMELY noticeable. They're very easy to change out with the specialty tool, so it might be worth slapping some in if you're worried about it.
I use the GSC 0 tick lifters (they still sound the same though). They have a stiffer internal spring then the stock ones. You can also use the big bore 3G lifters, they're a bit cheaper and the same as the ones that come in the Evo's.
Also the lifter specialty tool makes life easy when changing them. You also can just use a flat head screwdriver if you don't want to buy the tool.
