Yours fried while driving, right? I think most on here had a problem while the key was on and the engine was off. I have left my car that way a few times with no problems. I've had the emanage on for almost a year. I wrote a vfaq for installing the emanage although I didn't do anything different from the instructions from Greddy. I do have a grounding kit, maybe that's the key? We really need to set up a list of what mods everyone is running and if the burned up coils or not to see what is really causing this. I can't believe it's just a random event.

Holy ****!! I fried a coil pack today while driving. Just cruising, at 80mph or so, in 5th gear. Car started sputtering a little bit. Smelled something odd burning under the hood. Car lost more and more power. Didn't hold idle. Later on, I noticed that the left coil pack melted a little bit. It shrunk on the one side.

I have had the E-Manage for some time now, and this is the 1st time it happened. I did just read the post above mine, and it said something about the AC being on. Today was one of the first times I used the AC in the car in some time now, and that's when it cooked the coil. Think it's related in some way (AC on = cooked coil pack?). Oh, it's only the one coil pack that cooked (passenger side one).

My E-Manage has the newer firmware update on it done too, which is supposed to eliminate coil packs cooking.

Any info, please email or post here. Thanks in advance.

well it's the same as mine then.
I've had the E-manage for a while now.Updated the software too. Then about 2-3 weeks ago, coils started frying!!!
I don't understand. With me..it happens whenever I use the a/c or my xenon lights. Now these lights came with the car(2 yrs ago) and i never had this problem.
I checked through most of the electrical and didnt come up with anything..it happened again.I even disconnected the ignition harness from the E-manage..so now the car is running on it's own stock ignition...still happened.
A guy on this forum told me it looks like it may have something to do with grounding...sort of makes sense since if there is a bad ground..and you use a/c etc..there can be an overload which can melt the coil.
So he sent me the original grounding manual for my car.So right now I am doing over the grounding as how mitsubishi has it in their manual.
If you'd like me to email u the grounding diagram, pm me.
All you need to buy is the wire..and the diagram pages has everything else on how to go about it etc.
Hopefully this will solve the problem. On thursday my electrician is comin to do over the grounding.after that i will drive with everything on(a/c, lights, music etc) .if it does not happen then the problem is fixed.
will let you know.

I have that optional Mitsubishi grounding kit on my car. It has some thick *** cables on it. I'm 110% sure that those cables are installed at the exact correct points as per the instructions that came with them.

It does make sense that a bad ground of some kind can overload the coils. My car is fine with the xenon headlights on. From what I know, it is definitely after I turned on the AC that the coil pack started cooking. I think it did it over time too. My car was sputtering for a while, and got worst and worst. I probably drove a total of about 8 miles (to get home) in this condition. Just lost more and more power.

My theory.... maybe the E Manage itself is messed up. Maybe it's sending power through the ground part. Is there any way I can isolate the ground on the E Manage? Any way I can use a resistor, or a relay or something, that way this won't happen again? Coil packs aren't cheap, and they aren't readily available.

incognito....
well I have done the grounding but I am still afraid to use the a/c or the lights..
please tell me what you are going to do with the e-manage...because i have no knowledge of resistors etc.
same here man....coil packs are hard to find...and if you do, they are expensive!

Also..you were saying that you had the e-manage for some time now.
So why is it that it just started happening all of a sudden? Can anyone provide any logic here because I am lost.
I never had problems either and then I melted a piston and re-built the engine. After I got it back...I had this problem. That's why I thought maybe...grounding.
But I am totally lost now....

oh and since it happened I have burnt two coils.
after the first one..I disconnected the emanage ignition harness totally and connected the original ignition back to how it was.
After that it still melted a coil.
Just making sure to add all my info so maybe we can come to a conclusion.

OK, my car... The day that it happened, it was kinda hot. It was the first time I used the AC in a while. Not sure, but it might actually be one of the first, if not THE first time I used AC since I got the E Manage. I live in the north east, and we had a cold winter. Anyway, that day, I had the AC on, and I parked the car. Turbo timer kept the car running, but the car stalled, and there was about 20 seconds left, so I just left it. This means the car was basically in the "on" position, with the engine not running, for about 20 seconds. Drove fine afterwards. I drove home later with the AC on, for about 35 miles, then that is when the sputtering happened. I think it has to do with the AC, because this hasn't happened before. Actually, it happened one other time a while back, but that was from leaving the key on the on position, before the firmware upgrade.

I have no problems with the headlights.

I am trying to get another 2 coil packs to see if AC is really the problem. I am just going to let the car idle with the AC on for an hour and see what happens.

If U come across any new progress, let me know. I emailed GReddy earlier today. We'll see how helpful they are.

no grounding kit, latest firmware, plenty of a/c use, and aftermarket lights. No problems yet... crossing my fingers for good luck

I installed the emanage last summer (July) and used the AC quite a bit after that. I've also left the key on/engine off for 45 minutes - accidentally - with no ill effects.

evosevengsr - if you had the ignition harness unplugged there's really no way the emanage could have burnt the coils. Perhaps there is a condition upon which the coils can fry with the car stock, and the emanage just accentuates it? Are there other 7 owners that have had this problem? The 7 is listed by Greddy as a supported vehicle, maybe they can shed some light.

Update: Not really. A day has gone by, and GReddy hasn't gotten back to me.

Car is still running good with the new coil, but I'm still hesitant about leaving it in the On position with motor not running, or turnning on the AC.
