Take it to your local auto parts store. They should be able to pull the code for you. After you find out the code looK up what it is or post it here. That will tell you what caused the code at that point we can try to figure out what it is.

Yes, pull the code.. if the UTEC is working fine, you won't get a CEL.. Verify your firmware version (it should be 1.3 or if its an early UTEC 1.2)
Its possible one of your aftermarket parts is complaining (aftermarket exhaust, O2 sensor, Aftermarket intake, etc..) but never triggered the ECU previously.. There's a technical reason behind it.. But the UTEC itself shouldn't trigger any CEL's if its functioning correctly.

The CEL light should not be on all the time unless you threw a code and you didn't disable the CEL with the UTEC.

Did you check all the connections when you put it in. If you tugged on a harness to hard then you might have loosned a wire. Check that and also get that code read it might have nothing to do with the UTEC.

There are several things that can trigger a CEL and then go away.. It likely wasn't the UTEC but another component or even your gas cap or something equally unusual..
However even though your CEL went off, the code is still on the ECU, if you want to clear the codes and see if it comes back, remove the battery cables and let the car sit for awhile.. I'm almost certain that the code you got was either an anomoly, or something unrelated to the UTEC.

Just as an aside, If your idle dips too low while the utec is in the car, with the cel disabled or not sometimes it will come on..
It is almost like the utec thinks the car has stalled, this has happened to me while saving maps while sitting idling and also on the highway.. Sometimes it goes away after a few min sometimes it stays on, no code in regestered on the ecu..
