Talking Custom Big16g ?????????

Question i'm looking to soon either buy or custom fab. A turbo for my lancer. I just so happen to have another project swapping my old 1st gen race engine in a new 2g frame i have. I have an extra big 16g out of this, is this turbo too big for my lancer without a lot of custom fabrication? There is someone near me that I just met online said he is running a 16g on an auto, custom made out of san antonio? What do you guys think? Also has anyone custom made a setup on here? What did you do? I have a fmic and the turbo i just don't really know where to go from there? please get back to me. Oh and has anyone here heard of or ran the turbo specalties kit? -Drew

I dunno the characteristics of the 16g. Try finding and comparing compressor maps vs more popular turbos (for the Lancer) like the T25, T28 and T3 variants.

Fans can easily be relocated to the front of the radiator, esp if you go slim line. I plan on doing that mod when I put my car back together or shortly thereafter. I could use the extra clearance me thinks.

Yeah, probably a good idea to make sure it fits first though.

yeah one of my fans is on the other side of the radiator, as is anyone with the RRM turbo kit. the extra 3 inches makes a world of difference.

Where could i get a slimline fan? What type of manifolds are you guyz running? And i wonder how an internally gated turbo will work.... Probalby just fine not pushing too much psi at first at least. Also what type of fuel management upgrades do they send with ur kits? Fmu that type of stuff? I have an extra walboro 255 as well.... let me know about this, and see what you guyz think. -Drew

I just checked on turbochargers.com they say the big 16g flows about 550 cfm about 50 cfm over a t28, so i don't know where that sits.... If that's a bit too much? It's what a ten percent gain. Also eventually i'd like to squeeze a bit after i get je's and i ceramic top them from, ffwdconnection.com. Well we'll see I hope it works out, it'd save me a lot of money, and it'd be something unique that i'd like to do. -Drew

It's not the flow rate I was talking about. I just don't know how well the 4g94 will spool a 16g because I don't know its relative turbine size (due to fairly blatant dissimilarities between the Lancer and DSM's I've spent very little time researching them in detail), and therefore I have no idea of any approximation of when you'd be spooling, in boost, full boost etc.

This may be a dumb question, but how do you set the maximum PSi you wish to achieve, with an internal wastegate? I belive that with an external you just adjust the spring inside. WOuld this setup (if fesable) require a manual or electronic boost controller to work properly? Also What type of fuel upgrades did ur turbo kit come with? -Drew

I don't know anything about internal wastegates, but it could definitely be done with a boost controller.

A big 16g on a lancer???? You can make anything work but I would go with something smaller. To answer your other question...Andrew is right a manual or electronic controller will get the job done. My "BIG" t28 flows the same as a 16g. Don' you have an old T25 laying around from the two DSM's? Thats what I would use...why spend the money if ya got one laying around. The T25 may have sucked ***** on the 2g's where it just plain ran out of steam, but it CAN be ran up to 15psi. It would take alot of mods to get the lancer to be pushing that kind of boost. A t25 would be a whole other story on a lancer.

to adjust an internal wastegate (if you can) there is a little screw shaft thing on the wastegate rod and you either lengthen or shorten the rod with that adjustment...i forgot what is +psi and -psi. but most internal wastegates are fixed meaning the rod doesn't have the adjustment so then you'll need a boost controller to raise the boost up.

OR you can just go out and get an aftermarket (internal) spring adjustable wastegate.
