RIPPMODS Supercharger DONE!
hey you guys who are talking about over 20 psi of boost...do yourselves a favor and look over at the Evo side to see what it takes to handle the heat and pressures involved.. remember in addition to a rather decent fmic, Evos have steel cranks, shot peened rods, an oil cooler, and heads designed for heavy boost. Ripp will tell you what is reasonable, I was looking hard at them for mod.s on my 3g Eclipse GT. Also, you may need to look at a clutch if you want to hold things down in the upper gears. The potential is there, just approch it wisely.
ya the group buy for ripp right now is a hella phat deal.
and .L. haha that souns like an awesome idea, only you gots to give me a couple years lol. I bet boe would be up for that challenege though since he is already at around 10psi and u can boost at 10psi with your new supercharger

lol thats awesome, just make sure u take some good movies of it
i raced a stock eclipse RS from a 50mph roll tonight and just pulled on it all the way up to 100, tehe
i cant wait for the turbo.

this so called gb blows....anyone can haggle at least $600 just walking in off the street and willing to buy, how is this a deal?? since these are the first customers and such they should be giving it to us at or just above cost, not retail. and it's not even intercooled for that price
Really, isnt intercooled? I did not know that, I thought it was. I agree that RIPP should be selling it for less since these people are going to be the first people with Lancers and the 4G94 engine getting their kit and will be the ones saying "YA ITS AWESOME!" or "THis kIT BLOWS!".
I understand why they obviously cant sell it at cost, But it would be cool if they did.

yah thats what I thought, too. They used a methanol water injection that cools down the engine bay exremely fast I think, and maybe ripp is on its way making stage 3 with an intercooler. Meaning you could possibly boost at higher levels, but with their cooling system, if you can boost between 9 to 11psi than thats a really good setup. I don't think RRM non ic turbo can boost that high nor the RRM ic turbo can boost that high, unless they have upgraded their stock internals.
Well, no - RRM cant boost that high but thats because these are two totally DIFFERNT technologies, to even compare the two and say, well im going with RIPP because u can boost higher is a stupid statement, not that u said that, just in general. Turbo gives you 175whp at 6psi roughly on the non-IC kit. Im not sure what RIPP claims at that psi but if you think about boe or the project lancer from RRM running like 234WHP at 10psi, boost it up to 11psi and u will be at the 240 or whatevre RIPP was claiming at 11psi. So yes their even, just two differnt technologies.
I personally would rather have the turbo, only becuase you are at full boost by around 3500rpms, where yes the sds spools right away, it isnt full it just is boosting, and since it runs off the belts of the drivetrain or whatever, you actually loose some power right off the line in order to get the superchargre spooling and then u gain it back.
I saw steve lurking around these forums earlier, hoepfully he will post again why this is and why the turbo is just more effective.
But its your call on what you want to do with your money and how u want to spend it. I personally would rather spend it 2200$ on a used turbo kit from RRM and then spend another 700$ for an intercooler and be at 200whp for 3K than spend 4K and get another only 20hp at that.
Also the sds hasnt been tested yet on an automatic, and to be honst, i dont wanna be the first one unless RIPP would "give away" the kit for me to try, im not about to be the one to find out their kit doesnt fit right with the automatic or something like that.
Go with what you know works and works well, thats why i choose RRM. ya, RIPP works, but they really havent been tested on nearly as many lancers as the RRM turbo, once they can get their kit out and hopefully people wanna dish out the money, then hopefully they will build a name for themselves and more people will trust them. But rightr now it doesnt seem like that many people are interested in it for the lancer. Not sure why?

You make a lot of valid points iilancerii02, but I prefer the Supercharger over the RRM turbo. FI kits are bad for our cars but I think turbos are worse. Superchargers tend to be more reliable, but then again through proper care of your engine you can make a turbo just as reliable. But I thought boosting was just boosting?
And I think ripp is reliable and a respectable company just like RRM. I wouldn't worry about the automatic lancer yet, i think zoo_lancer is getting it put on his car. I have a manual so I know to expect 222whp. Some people just prefer turbos, they like the impact of the turbo spooling and what not. I just prefer power, and I think the Ripp Mods SDS will give me what I want.

there is very little turbo-lag now a days...full boost from RRM's turbo is like what 3.2k? when u floor it...how often are u under 3.2k? i know when im heavy on it(automatic) i dont go below that for more than a split second...so to me...there is no 'turbo-lag' albeit if u had a huge t4 it wouldn't spool til 4-4.2k and yeah u'd have turbo lag...but the little t-25/28 and how u design the exhaust manifold u can be at full boost by 3k easily...go race ur car....tell me how long(even if) u get under 3k before u hit 100mph...from a stand still...
there will always be an argument over the 2...superchargers 'take away' power from ur engine...until what..2k rpms? turbo has lag..until 3k rpms... either way...its just whether you want a turbo...or supercharger.
i prefer turbo cuz of the BOV...
i mean..who doesn't right?? haha i think thast why 1/2 of us boost just for the BOV sound.
k my long rant is over.....now u can all quit ur little 3-5yr old like argument....cuz neither of u are gonna budge on it...and you'll be in the same spot 5 yrs down the road...cuz this argument has been goin on since they were compared to each other...and you are both saying the same thing they said 10 yrs ago...so why bother right???
