Does a SOHC 4G63 head (likely from a 96 Eagle Talon) work with a 4G94 from a 2002 Lancer OZ Rally?
The backstory: I bought a 2002 Lancer OZ Rally from someone who I soon learned, half-assed everything about the build. He told me it was a 4G63T, but it turns out the heads are what appears to be the 4G63 SOHC instead of the DOHC and I'm not sure what the long block was, but it was pretty solid.
Anyway, I left the car in someone else's hands while I was overseas for half a year and it appears the wastegate was disconnected or something because he way overboosted it and sent 3 connecting rods through the block. I'm guessing about 40lbs instead of 8lbs on all stock internals. Now my best option is to resurface and bore the heads from this engine that are in good condition to use with my stock Lancer 4G94 and just slap the 42mm turbo on that with low boost.
Picture for your entertainment. Gotta test fit this intake manifold on the 4G94
The 4G6X series is a different Motor then the 4G9X series. So, I would not think so. However there are 4G9X Head swaps that can be done for different goals in mind.
Also from that picture, it does not look like a 4G6X series, it look exactly like a 4G94 head I just took off my motor. Whoever you bought the car from half-assed that turbo install & LIED to you if that is the actual motor that is in your car!! I do believe the 02-03 Oz Rallies had the same motor as the LS & ES(SOHC 2.0 I4 4G94). I could be wrong, but the OZ/Ralliart Editions did get a 4G6X series after 03(04-08?). I will have to find the links, but you can build a new 4G94 for really cheap. I got a crate block and a rebuilt head for around $1000/Shipped, & slapped them together.
