I agree that amp/speaker combo from the same company may work better than mix and match, because of the reason you stated...what i was saying is that a if signal processed by a RF HU vs a Pioneer HU is going to the same RF speakers, the RF is not necessarily better just b/c its RF and the speakers are RF...if you use high quality components throughout your setup then you should have a nice sounding system...for example, the last time i checked focal didnt make HU or amps...does that mean you're gonna go with RF speakers over Utopias to match your RF amp? so yea, in the end you should hear it yourself and then decide for yourself...

matched set sounds better than what? a mixed set? it has nothing to do with the name on it. in order to prove this point, you'd have to get 2 identical systems. i mean completely identical. then trade out each component for almost exact replacements (same specs entirely) but different name. if this is the case, you think because it has rockford on it will make it better than if it has sony on it?

of course if you have all rockford stuff, then switch out the speakers for lesser quality sonys, it'll sound bad. but it won't because they are sony, it will because they are bad speakers. if you put higher quality sonys in, it will sound better. if you put equal sonys in, it will sound the same (hence EQUAL).

you can't make a benchmark to test a hypothesis like this, and it's really plain silly if you think about it. name brand doesn't mean much unless you are going for show, just get the highest quality stuff you can afford.

I have the Pioneer 8400MP, I love it and it has great control over sound and protection over your high and mids so you can prevent blow outs. Good for the money and much better over stock.

Like I said before, few companies have perfected the package (good HU and speakers). There's nothing wrong with having all different components... Alpine HU, Planet Audio mid-bass, JBL tweeters, Power Acoustik rear-fill, RF amp, Scoche amp kit, Clarion sub... you get the picture. I don't know why, but sticking with as few brands as possible just seems to be cooler. IMO its brand loyalty. If you like a certain company, you want to buy from them. At least that's how I am.
