Question Please give me a wiring suggestion....

Need some advise. I've got this powered subwoofer, it's a Pyle Toobz. I kept it from a car I had and now I'd like to install it in my new EVO. My question is, where is the best place to get the power from? Also, any tips in how to install it (run wires, etc.) would be welcome, any pitfalls to avoid, etc.
For the signal I thought I would take it from the rear speakers since they are easily accessible and I don't think the factory head unit has a line out anyway. Any comments on this?

Thanks for any help

Manuel

First off, you can't be ragging on the Audio & Security section for not responding in 13 mins. Despite what you may believe this is not the most popular section of the forum.
Anyhoo, Crzylizard's got the right idea. Run a wire from the battery (fuse it) for power, and get your signal from your rear speakers.

i agree on this (just to reiterate). just remember that the rear channel (depending on what you wire it to) will be sending the signal to the sub. so if you fade or balance your system in any way, just remember that it will be affecting the sub too.

I did not mean to rag anybody, please don't take it personally. I went ahead and investigated on my own and found that under the hood to the right of the battery there is this accessory fuse/connector block. The cover is easily removed and there are 2 screw posts that will probably make great connection points for the fuse block and power lead. See the picture I added the red arrowas point to the screw posts (the keys are directly behind them)
Under the steering in the firewall there is also a hole where the wire appears can be threaded into the body. I ordered a wiring kit from Crutchfield which included 10 ga wire, fuse, fuse holder, a variety of connectors, ring terminals, ground wire and turn on wire. It seemed like a better deal than Best Buy or Circuit City offer locally. I'm attaching the photo and posting the info so others might benefit from my investigation. I'll try to finish the installation as soon as the parts get in and I'll post the results so others can use them.

Peace,
Manuel

silverEVO8, what is the result of your install?

I would like to install infinity basslink myself but if I can't figure out the wiring then I'll bring it to the local audio shop.

ok guys, ive been through this and i think i can help here. first off, run the power to the battery straight, and ground it in the trunk. thats what i did, i HAD an infinity basslink, spliced to the rear speakers. now...dont do that it sucks bad. when i had it like that in my eclipse, it sounded bad ***, but in the lancer it picks up crappy signals and sound terrible. barely any bass. at times you dont even know its there.

silverevo already bought the kit from crutchfield....nobody else waste your money (sorry man). go to home depot, buy 5 ft of black wire for ground, and 20 ft of red for power (or whatever colors float your boat). 12 gauge is just fine, and its like 10 cents a foot. buy some butt connectors and a pack of the rings for ground/power. all that stuff should run you around $8 bucks, and thats all you need (wire crimpers if you dont have them). oh yeah, one more thing, buy some rca's from ebay, i got 20ft for $7 shipped. go to the preouts on the head unit and you'll be happy. other than that like i said, its totally not worth it.

I personally ordered an aftermarket head unit for that purpose, but ended up not having the basslink when the aftermarket unit came in. i bought my basslink for $100 from a friend, used it for 6 months, and got a bad *** deal on two infinity perfect 12's amp and box. i rich guy traded me straight up for my basslink . he went from a jeep to a gti, and i went from a spyder to a lancer, so i have plenty of room, he has none. im extremely happy now with the system, you can check it out here.... https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=21351

if you do want a basslink zryoohkiz (probably the best powered subwoofer available IMO, awesome!!) hook it to an aftermarket head unit, or its not worth it (or any other powered sub for that matter). As for the install, if you still want to splice to the rears, its easy as hell, dont take it to a shop, theyll rape you.

hope any of that helps.....heres a pic of my subs anyway you can click the link and check out the head unit and everything, whole setup cost me a total of $330 or so including wires etc. did it myself, knowing nothing about audio install, very easy, my first time. if anyone needs any help, pm me or whatever.

Thanks for the very informative info Zeeshan

FYI, I have replaced the head unit and the factory speakers with the aftermarket ones. I just need to install the last piece, which is the basslink.

Sorry guys, my subwoofer and wires are still sitting on the shelf I've not had the time to do the install yet. BTW, the wiring kit from Crutch field is very cheap when you consider the hassle of driving around looking for all the different wires, connectors fuse holders, etc. Zeeshan, you are right to do it any way you want, but I rather have the heavier gauge wire of automotive quality and all the ring connectors, fuse holders, etc. I don't know how things are where you live but here in Atlanta they'll rape you just buying the ring terminals, fuse block, etc. By the time you drive around hunting all the sh*t and spending time and money, you might as well spend $15 and have it delived at your door with all the stuff you need.
just my $.02

For anyone else that needs wiring. Go to Wal-Mart and pick up a Scosche amp kit. They have them for systems for up to 1000 watts and $29 being the most expensive. They will come with every thing you need, ring termainal, fuses, RCAs if needed.

i was gonna say walmart as well. scosche is good stuff.

also, silverevo8, thanks for the pic showing the accessory fuse point. have you connected your power cable there yet? or has anyone else tried using that for their power supply? i'm thinking about moving my line over there, just so the install looks a bit cleaner.

silverevo, yea man stuff is all close and cheap around here, so i just picked it all up. wasnt a problem, but how much is it from crutchfield anyway? now that i dont have a basslink anymore, im gonna upgrade the power and ground wires, so im shopping around a bit. thicker will make better sound. the home depot wires ar perfect for the basslink...it doesnt need thick wires because the power is limited, but now that i have a 1200 watt amp, i need something i lil better. basically power and ground is all i need...and a fuse holder for the battery connection.

zryoohkiz, if you upgraded all that your stuff is gonna sounds awesome. thats how i had it in my eclipse. thing is, im so happy with my 12's i would suggest searching around the internet for some sub deals...i see them ALL THE TIME for nice stuff. much cheaper than what you can get it for retail.

Crutchfield had some stuff on sale that I got pretty cheap.... I think it was $15 but I can't remember. They often have stuff on sale so it pays to check around. As I remember, it was cheaper and more what I wanted from Crutchfield that at the local discount stores..... Maybe I lucked out and got some kind of good deal...
