Simple Sub Question
Simple Sub Question
Ive got 3 10in mtx subs, 2 5000d and 1 6000d pushed by some mtx amp
i think it says 775w max
and the subs are 500w max
i think 350 rms but i cant remember
i was wondering if it would sound better with 1 sub getting more power or all 3 with less power? or 2?
its in a sealed box, but i can make a box if needed for only one or 2
thanx

all three should be getting the same amount of power for maximum sound performance. if your debating on just keeping one or two, play around with it and see what your personal feelings are to the sound its putting out. if you really wanna rock, have all three of them pushed to the max
the problem is when you use diffrent subs even from the same family, its gonna sound like ****. diffrent oms from diffrent subs with 1 putting out a diffrent signal than the other two.
if it were me i would either do just 1 or just two.
the answer is yes, however one will pull more power than the other two.
someone please correct me if im wrong.

with 3 they all get the same amount of power but not as much
would it be better to have less subs and more power going to each one? instead of buyin a bigger amp

i believe it's better to put more power to one sub than to put halved power to two subs. loudness increases 3dB when you double the speaker area (meaning adding another sub same size). so if you had to choose between putting 500watts to one sub or 250watts to 2 subs, you should do 1 sub.
if the speakers can only handle 250 watts, than it's obviously better to power them both 250 watts each than to overpower one with 500 watts.
i believe this is correct.

Wait... confusion... FOr example, if you have an amp thatz 400 watts, and two subs, it will just be divided into 200 watts each.. and if your speakers are also connected to the same amp, the wattage for the subs will be less.. So its better if you get amps for highs and lows... Speakers = 1 amp; Subs = 2 or more amps
Match amp to RMS. If you are using one amp, add RMS of speakers and match amp to that number. Speakers work best when power by amps that match the RMS, but have a range so that they can be powered by amps of lower power. Overpowering a speaker will still work, but you must be careful when tuning your system, so that you are not pushing the speaker too hard (running over it's RMS continually).

I bought ONE 15 inch KICKER Sub....with out taking that much space...it delivers great performance running and 600 watts....You can hear it from 2 blocks away...your rearview mirror starts vibrating and the trunk rattles....I you have to many subs...it wont deliver much of a clean sound...Just givin you some heads up advice....

If you double cone area +3dB
If you double power +3dB
If you double both +6dB
So, either way, one sub pushing 500w, or 2 of the same subs pushing 250 comes out the same SPL wise (for sealed boxes). SQ wise, it really depends on the install.
