Question Fiberglass boxes

Got a couple of questions about fiberglass boxes. Is there any sound difference from them in comparison to a standard wooden box? Also, are they durable? Thanks, I'm still an audio newb so any help yall can give will be greatly appreciated.

The first question is kinda tough to answer. They sound like a really well built MDF box...in other words, a properly built fiberglass box is very dense and sounds very solid. Which brings me to the durability question. At least a 1/4" to 1/2" (or 3 to 4 layers) of fiberglass is sufficient. It varies though, depending on the type and shape of enclosure that you are building. If it's a very compact box, you can stay under the 1/2" range. If the box has some long, open surfaces, especially where the sub(s) will be mounted, you definitely want some added thickness. Also, try to keep your layers uniform in thickness everywhere on the box. I built a fiberglass enclosure for my Lancer and, because of the long face area, probably went a little in the overkill range. My 'glass layer was at least 1/2" plus a layer of kitty hair (fiberglass reinforced bondo). I could honestly jump on this box if it weren't for fear of jacking up the paint job. Below is a link to my overall audio build thread, which shows the box from it's beginning stages to completion. Also see my for sale thread linked in my sig. Hope this helps.
