Now I'm ordering two JL 10w0's but not sure which Ohms to get them in

4ohms or 8ohms?

My audio installer is telling me 4ohms and others are telling me 8ohms!

Please help!

 

link doesnt work for me. 404 error or something like that. Is the amp stable to 2 ohm bridged or 4 ohm bridged. If it is just 4 ohm bridged get the 8 ohm subs. 2 ohm bridged get the 4 ohm subs.

Your amp is 2 ohm stable. Meaning you can get the 4ohm subs and get away with it. Both will work, but the 4ohm subs will get slightly more power than the 8 ohm subs.

So it doesn't really matter either way. Pick whichever you'd prefer.

 

If your subs can handle it, run em in bridged mono for more bass. It'll draw a lot more power, but it's worth it for the fuller sound. I haven't gotten my amp hooked up yet (I'm a lazy bastige and waiting for my new head unit), but I'm also not sure how our panasonic batteries and stock alternators will handle an sort of significant draw. Even with a 0.5 farad cap I noticed slight dimming in my old car. Then again...I had encountered a few battery and alternator related problems with it in the past...anyway...my answer is still 2ohms, even after that long tangent.

 

I just got my old stereo from my mirage installed. It used to dim the lights on the mirage so the music tech had me install 4 gauge power leads. Surprisingly the lights still dim big time and I am only running one 400 watt amp on 2 Mtx subs. (6yrs old)

I installed my cd player on the factory system.

I wonder if it is the age of the amp?

Regardless of the wire you use (assuming it's enough to power the amp's draw) if the lights are dimming, no gauge should change the dimming as far as I know. You're still drawing the same amount of power from the battery and through the alternator if you use 8, 4, or 2 gauge. The problem most likely isn't what you're drawing the power through, it's what you're drawing it from. (battery or alternator) If a cap doesn't help, then you'll have to take more drastic measures. At least that's how I see it.

 

I'm running a Memphis HC100 for my subs as well as an Memphis HC50 for my mids and highs, both of which are high current amps, and I am not having any trouble with lights dimming or anything. In my old Probe I upgraded the alternator with an Ohio Generator alternator but it was $550 and it really helped. Of course I was running three Memphis HC100's in it. It all depends on how much you want to spend. Also if you're worried about the battery handling it, you might upgrade it to a Stinger battery or an SVR deep cycle battery. They both work about the same but the SVR will be less expensive.

 

the amp is 2 ohm stereo stable. if he got 2 8 ohm subs and ran the amp bridged at 4 ohm mono then its fine. if he got 2 4 ohm subs and ran the amp bridged at 2 ohm mono the the amp is not stable at that load and might fry, blow fuses, etc..

about the upgrading wire thing. Did u upgrade your grounds too. this makes a bigger difference in dimming lights then small power wires.

also ive never seen a single cap do much for dimming lights. 2 caps yes. extra battery yes. upgraded alternator oh yeah.

edit. sometimes its your amp that is causing the lights to dim. example I have had a little pg amp putting out 180 watts and it dimmed my lights like a champ. ive had a zapco z600 (1200+ watts) that didnt dim my lights at all. weird huh

 

Personally I doubt there'd be any problems running at 2ohms, but well...depends what you wanna hear coming out of your subs I guess.

I have both sides bridged to 2 subs. 2 channels per sub.

Maybe it is the amp. It sounds pretty good for only a 400 watt amp.

It's old though. I hear that most of the older amps had better components since companies weren't so conscious of making profits. in today's competitive market however they are cutting corners to make a buck.

BTW they ran a new ground so that is not it either on the dimming.
