Speaker Set Up Suggestions Please ...

can someone list the speakers we have in the evo one by one? i know theres speakers in the rear deck, on driver and passenger side, and tweeter-like speakers on two sides near the front windshield...is that it? what sizes fit? ONLY 6 3/4"? b/c most online places i c only sale 6.5"?

also...if i have a budget of $500...what would you guys recommend me with the following considerations:
1. I want a HU (w/ mp3 playback if possible).
2. I want decent bass but no amp or sub...so just speakers...saves weight.
3. Clarity in combo with power.
4. Light weight (if possible)

oh yea...when dealers sale "component speakers"...what exactly is the difference b/t that and regular speakers?

im pretty clueless when it comes to audio systems...
thanks!

componets have a crossover and the best way to go is alpine b'c they have an adapter for the 6 3/4" opening and the best quality. you cant go wrong that way but you will need 2 sets

I don't know that I'd call alpine the "best quality" there are better sounding components out there. Personally, I dig focals, image dynamics, crystal, adire and a few others.

Really though, you should head for a reputable audio dealer in your area, and give a bunch of sets a listen. Your ears are what matter.

As for headunit, Alpine makes some nice ones, as do Pioneer and Panasonic. Again, this all comes down to personal preference. Just pick out the features you want, set a price point, and see who comes closest.

Here's what I'd do for $500.
Adire Koda Components - $349 (yeah, it's price heavy, but worth it IMO)
Blaupunkt San Jose - $139 (decent unit, GREAT price)

Then I'd scrounge and save my pennies for a decent 2 channel amp.

I have seen locally some Pioneer drop-in "Rev series" coaxials, I believe they are something like Ts-D170R. They are the 6 3/4 version of the Ts-D160R 6.5". Locally they are like $169 a pair, but if you are looking for bass w/out a sub, I think they do a pretty decent job. That doesn't leave you a lot of money for a hu, but I have seen some good deals on eBay for slightly used headunits around $150.

what do you guys think about the advantage of getting a 3 way over a 2 way? is it necessary? is one or the other better for front or back?

Yes, that seems like a great price too. For the type of music I listen to, I would still want some tweeters in the A-pillars. You should be able to pick up some 1" tweeters with inline crossover for not too much, depending on how staging is with the 2-way in door. Since you mentioned you don't want to use an amp, and it looks like you can get speakers cheap, I like the Eclipse CD8443 headunit. It has a decent amount of adjustability, like time delay and crossovers, but can also run in a "simple" mode. Plus the power section is one of the better (IMO) units out there right now. I think they are a much better value than Alpine. If you do decide to add amp(s) at some point, the Eclipse gives you 3 sets of 8V preout, and aux. input for MP3.
