Piggybcak review
I'm not sure if theres a better place to put this review so no one has to read through this whole thread to get this review. so if there is, please move it for me.
OK its on and ready for the review. Just to let you on i got it on around 3:00pm today so I've only had a few hours of driving on it, but heres how I feel about it so far...
My modifications: K&N short ram intake and magnaflow axelback. Also I have an auto lancer just to let you know.
First, the installation, knowing how to solder makes it fast, wires weren't hard to find, took about 1 hour (to get it completely put on and secured). I stuck it back to the left of the glove compartment and velcroed it.
Next was boring just letting it idle for about 10 minutes.
Then I drove it about 15 minutes before opening it up.
The first time I floored it was from a roll of about 25 mph. it dragged a bit and then downshifted and sped up a bit. I turned it off then back on and continued driving normally, accellerating quickly every now and then. It didnt really feal like an improvement until about 30 minutes of driving. Its starts out feeling sluggish, but later on as i was cruising around, it started to become noticeable that when I accelerat its much more responsive.
Some power differences noticed: It does launch a little bit quicker, and feels like it stays in each gear longer before it shifts. One huge improvement that is definately noticeable is after it shifts out of low gear. Usually when you launch, it goes pretty quick, but then the car shifts and the power sort of dies out, but now, after it shifts, it keeps acceleration up and feels great. So you can definately tell it speeds up faster, especially around 4-6000 rpms, you get an extra little "burst of speed". I haven't "raced" anyone yet, so I'm not sure how much better it performs against other cars. and i haven't done any checks on gas mileage but i plan to tomorrow (actually just later today) when I head back to school. Its a 3 hour drive and< starting with a full tank, takes about 3/4 to get there non stop. I'll post what i figure out later.
One thing different about idle was that now my engine seems to jerk while in drive at idle, I'm not sure what causes this or if it's a problem, but I popped the hood and the engine does "kick" while it idles, but i think only in drive. And last is that my "service engine soon" light came on. not sure if it coincidentally came on cause i need to or because of the PB. but I'll check that out later too.
Overall I'm very satisfied with this and recommend it. You definately notice a difference after it is "broken in."
If theres anything I didn't post and needs answering let me know.

for you check engine light, you need to find out what is causing that, if its a misfire? are you running the recomended 89? and when was the last time you changed your plugs? cus the piggy is not supposed to make your CEL come on

yeah i need my car serviced bad. i havent changed out my plugs but i planned on getting better ones anyway. I am running 89 octane. but i heard some other people with the old piggyback saying their CEL came on. but yeah i'm getting that checked out too.
Rock has garaunteed us that this piggy will NOT cause CEL. So it must just be coincidence. Take the car to Autozone or the like and have them pull the code for free.
Thanks for the review. The anticipation is killing me! GOod luck with the CEL.

alright thanks i'll do that. I pulled the 1st and 4th plugs today and they seem fine, but i'll still check out autozone. did you get the piggyback too? if so I'm sure you'll enjoy the extra pull after its worked in.

I think it is a something else. We always assume everything is healthy but it sounds like you may not be. Regardless. Rest ECU by disconnect the battery. Drive the car easy for a day. When you first start the car the first time let it idle for 10-15 minutes. Let ECU learn a bit. CEL may not come back. Also if idle is a little jumpy on automatic, rasie idle at t.b. 100 rpms in park. That should solve it all for you. Duble check your connections too.

ok, yeah i let it idle for like 10 minutes before i drove it, but i only drove it 15-20 minutes normally, then i started driving hard, but yeah i'll start over, and the connections are good, my girlfriends brother in law did it, hes an electrician and did car stereo wiring for a long time. but i'm still going to check out autozone just to see.
Hey im a noobie at tuning but I just bought an 05 lancer and my dad made me buy the extended warranty, so im wondering if this will void the warranty. Of course i wount leave the piggyback on when i bring it in, but will they void it if they see the wires were split to insall it or the cars computer has memory that it was modified?

well it depends on what messes up. if it has to do with computers they'll check and see. If you solder it in, theylls definately notice it was installed. even the clip ons are noticeable but who knows. But i'm pretty sure it voids the warranty because it is messing with the ecu. if you want you could ask the dealership and they might not even care, most likely they will.
