That's what you're going to find out. Is the duct as effective coming in from the side (my style, results above) or with the duct ramming air through the front of an open-front filter (your style) I know yours has the cone-shaped depression and has filter material inside, but I can't recall exactly what they're called.

So you have to plug the front of your duct, drive around at 25 and 30 MPH (sorry, got the speeds wrong in the above post ) while the car is at "normal" temps and take your readings. Then unplug the ram and do more of the same. I think my tests took about 20 minutes total (10 minutes each time)

I see what you mean now That's what I'll do. My cable should be in around wednesday so I should have number by next friday. I've been looking at a few Laptop/Pda software and it looks like the Digimoto software as Air intake Temp AND MAF air flow readings which is the one I'm mostly interested in.

road test as promised.
Tonight 9PM pre-install
@ 25MPH IAT 104, Coolant temp 185
@30 MPH IAT 103-104 coolant temp 185

Tonight 9:30 post install. The ram is just a piece of 4" dryer vent that's butted up against the filter and the other end is hanging in front of the vent- I used some copper wire to hang it from the headlight bracket.
@25 MPH IAT 77F coolant temp 183
@30MPH IAT 75F coolant temp 183

So we have a drop of about 30 degrees. Last time I checked, 5degrees is worth about 1 HP. So I just gained 6HP at standard street speeds. Awesome. I didn't test freeway speeds, but I'm thinking the temps will go down a few more degrees (but there's gotta be a limit).

***.

Yes it does read the mas air flow reading. I didn't think to check it, though. I'll see if I can't plug the duct tonight and get a couple readings for you.

That would validate my theory of Vacuum drop

On the way home:
ambient temp: 82
peak coolant temp 199 coolant temp average 192
Peak IAT: 116 (while taking off from a stopsign) IAT at idle average: 111
Lowest IAT: 91 average while driving: 95 @ 30MPH (although wit h traffic the distances I was able to go while driving 30 was much shorter than last night. I'd say average speed while not stopped was closer to 25)
Mass air reading fluctuated and so I didn't think it was very useable info. even while driving it would go from 1.25 to 3.48 lb/min Of course I'm not claiming a sealed system, either

Tomorrow: 2 hours on the freeway! yay!!

at the mas- the little diode/resistor/thingy inside reads the air temp. and yes, the temps are almost ambient at just 30MPH. I'll report on the freeway test this afternoon.

ok, 60MPH road test:
Ambient temp about 80F
Coolant temp: Max 205 avg 185
IAT Avg 95. Lowest while driving: 93 highest while driving: 97 Highest while accelerating from stop-n-go traffic: 130-ish.

I did not get a chance to test with the ram blocked or covered. I'm thinking, though, that without the ram IAT is closer to 115... hopefully I'll get a chance to test this weekend.

So that would be aproximatly... from 115 to 95... That's a 20 degree difference between idle and cruising. I can't even imagine what would have been the difference with the ram intake blocked... Can'T wait to get my obd cable and start testing
