Govern Limiter

I just aquired a mitsubishi lancer OZ AT `04 ( I prefer manual but the guy who sold it had just this one, and I needed a car ASAP) anyway It had 12,500 miles on it and I checked it out and it was in pretty good condition (new tires, no bumps, scratches, dengs, dents, or engine problems etc. I started to fix it up (4 tip Bosch 5/8 spark plugs, oil change castrol, oil filter, the usual stuff) Anyway I notice two things:

The gas mileage is low; on a full tank 10-11 gallons I get 200-220 miles, and as I reach 100 mph it seems as if it just cannot go any faster like the car is thinking "should I go faster or not, the odometer needle trying to push but getting nowhere)
anyway my question are this:

Is the gas mileage normal? Do I have to remove the Govern limiter to go faster? If so where is it and how do I do it?

please PM me or better yet email me at:

By the way y next "upgrade" are Toyo FZ8 205/65R14 "Unidirectional" tires

im pretty sure our cars dont have a governor just a rev limiter, it doesnt go fast enough for a governor just a rev limiter to protect the engine so people like you that max it out dont f*** it up.

I have a stick and usually get about 35 miles a gallon so that seems at least a little off. As for the speed, it really doesnt like to go much over 100.. no govener just so much drag against the car at that speed is too much for the car to go much faster.

Did you buy a car from a Rental company? Company that rent cars will often put a speed limiter on the car to make sure it comes back in 1 piece.

there is no governor. the car is drag limited stock to about 120mph. after some mods the car will be able to top out at 135mph before hitting rev/fuel cut. when my 04 auto OZ was stock i was able to hit 110mph before it had a really hard time pulling. sounds like something is wrong w/ your car from the gas mileage

I got sh!ty mpg highway to NOPI and back, and that was after new plugs and Castrol syn oil change w/ filter. Though right after the tune-up, I got great mileage for the first tank ( about 180 @ half a tank). I went about 160 to NOPI and got half a tank left... man, what to do. I hit 120 stock and ran outta room.

i was getting 220 a tank, but lately i can get 260 to a tank. also, for some reason i can reach 100mph in my 3rd gear of my auto...it feels like it struggles past 130mph tho.
