Camshafts

Good to see a lively thread with lots of information.

To clarify some information for everyone.

There is no reason why you cannot use a stage 2 camshaft. To give an example we finished a 1.8 mirage the other day with stage 1 camshaft, 55mm tb, FPR unit, RPW race extractors, exhaust, greddy emanage, cold air induciton kit and got 125hp at the front wheels thats 125kw at the flywheel.

You can all imagine then what we can get form a 2.0 lancer with the same mods and a larger throttle body.

The point being a bigger camshaft is not always better. I really recomend for the majority of people who only use the car for city driving etc the stage 1 camshaft will always improve powre everywhere as well as more torque. The stage 2 cam is larger and whilst it does work even better, it won't start producing the same power as a stage 1 till around 3000 - 4000rpm and for a normal street car that can be bad unless you drive in those rpm levels all the time.

You do have to have valve springs for a stage 2 camshaft because the higher lift and duraiotn will cause the stndard valve springs to not be able to crush enough and valve bind and the cam gear is to allow you to set the cam timing up more accuratly but is not necessary.

With regards to throttle bodies yes we do the htrottle bodies for the lancers - as per our website but it is a fairly long time process with the USA as ou have to send us yours first and then we send you one back.

My reason for wanting to go with a stage 2 cam is mostly due to the fact that this car is basically dead up top. To me with the mods surrounding the stage 2 cam the losses in the low end will be nominal when compared to the gains where the car needs it the most.

Good reasoning and something that individual drivers need asses before modifying the car. THis is why we give options and recomendations but ultimatly it is up to the customer to decide dependant upon how they drive there car and wehre they want to drive the car.

The 1.5 cam I have is all about top end and mid power. You don't need to go stage 2 to get it back, 1.5 is awesome, don't know about the stage 1 though. I've been in a Tiburon with a stage 2 cam and it really seemed to bog in the lower RPM's, but was quick as hell past 3.5k
