i use redline 10w30 i have 30000 miles on my car it hits redline daily i change my oil every 5000 miles its clean thick it is just fine. i don't buy rocks reason redline is one of the best oils out there. i think there is something else behind the engines that is making them fail. not designed for turbo or nos maybe that is the reason.

Ok. I changed my tune. I will not be using Synthetic in my Lancer. I chatted with Barrett Mitsubishi in Georgetown (where I bought my car). they are not recommending use of any synthetic in this car. He did say the oil pump could have problems with that oil. if you want, call them at 512-531-5090. He also said to use a factory Oil Filter because some of the cheaper ones (autozone) could cause more restriction and cause issues. What type of filters is everyone using? (back to regular oil for me).

Maybe we can upgrade the oil pump to accept Synthetic oil? Or maybe not cuz it would be too $$$

Billy, I asked him last night via PM if he could get measurements for me for custom forged internals so once he gets them we'll all have another option for pistons (though RRM seems to have some very nice JE's) and an option for forged connecting rods. One way or another we should have something soon.

well i have a complete block, stock condition (ebay $100)with all the guts in it, i can easly take it to get custom stuff made. i was just hoping that maybe we can talk a vender into a group buy on forged pistons, like JE or Crower.

I'm all for the group buy thing, but we need precise measurements first. I had him use the form from Crower for rods and JE for pistons (I'm hoping for decomp pistons and/or ceramic coating if things work out). Anyway, PM me or IM me tonight and we can discuss further. Let's give the oil thread back.

I'm still trying to figure out how the oil is thinner (I realize it is... as I use it largely because it protects the head gasket in cold Wisconsin winter's) when it has to have the appropriate viscosity... anyone got an answer?
I want to know how oil protects a head gasket?
Mobil1 is more refined, therefore it is generally thinner.
Regular oil is more crude and it's molecular structures are thicker by nature. It is less viscose and Mobil1 is really more viscose at any temperature.

I agree totally with boe about the pumps, I do not have any experience with the 4G93 enigine or oil pumps but it make perfectly good sense. It seems to be more of a design flaw then anything in the pump. Rarely would you find those kind of clearances in today's cars.

4g94 for the record. Though I'm willing to bet we use the same pump as the 4g93.
