Muffler tips

of this web page, is the Mitsu Stainless Steel Exhaust Tip.

http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/catalog/?section=40

All I want, is something to fill in that ugly hole in the bumper, with a shiny tip like this. I want NO extra sound from this. I want it to sound completely stock. Just the nice look of it. I know most of the people here get their entire exhaust done, but I'm hoping someone here has an answer for me.

Also on the same page, is Mitsu's touch up paint. They say nothing about the size of what you pay for, anyone know? Should I just get it from paintscratch.com?

it will probably rust out eventualy. don't make the same mistake that i did in getting a tip welded to the exhaust. mine started to rust and otherwise look like crap after less than a year on the car. i got some newspaper and taped off the rear end of the car and sprayed the tip down with some high heat ceramic paint (black)... it isn't the prettiest thing--but it's a hell of a lot better than rust.

the tip will look nice for awhile--but then it will end up like crap. it will look like crap from day one if it's not welded and if it's attached with screws or brackets... it will look just plain cheap and tacky.

here's a picture of what the exhaust looks like now:

(i miss my VII wing... still kicking around in the basement though. )

the whole exhaust is done as well--i just have a dynomax muffler on there so it looks stock after i got some unwanted attention with what was essentially straight pipes (wonder why i got that attention, haha). the exhaust could use a resonator but aside from that it is perfect.

I had one of those long muscle tips (I guess you can call it that) on my last car. Sounded like a beast, but it did rust up in a few months. Same with a SS frame I had on my plate. But I'm sure you can just make it look as good as new with some of that Mother's Chrome Polisher or something, right?

I had an exhuast tip like that before I got my muffler. Picked it up from Walmart for prob 10 bucks. It does fill the hole nicely and adds a little style if you don't wanna go the aftermarket muffler route

edit: my old exhuast tip never rusted, but my muffler that I have now started rusting pretty bad, especially around the holes where a silencer can screw in. But yep, mother's polish cleans it up wonderfully

Hmmm, I may have to look at tips at Pep Boys while I'm there today. I always thought they were for those high schoolers who wanted to sound rice. I guess it can't hurt, ya know.

you could always get a magnaflow tip and have that welded on... i seem to remember magnaflow having a lifetime warranty against rust.

Now I'm going to have to get it welded on, correct? I've never messed with anything "bolt-on", so I don't have a clue about the Pros and Cons of them.

you don't have to weld on muffler "tips" they have small bolts on them that you just tighten down to secure it onto the muffler pipe
