just theory, after a long drive you have high engine temps but also alot of airflow. when coming to a stop without really a 'cooling' run, your engine temp skyrocket from lack of airflow until radiator fan kicks in and drops it back down and idle drops from voltage drain

thats a good theory, but why would it only do it in park, and not in neutral? Also why only with higher mileage cars?

well i cant answer the neutral or park issue, maybe its just coincedence or how much u coast if ur neutral compared to park (just braking and stopping fast)....

as for high mileage, possibly your radiator fluid is old and lost its effectiveness. grounding could also be reduced by dirty/rusty connections. ur maf or just air filter can be dirty and effect ur idle also. could be a number of small issues causing this....

well i am gonna get a ground kit and see if that helps.
But from what i can see, it seems like a transmission issue. If it where anything else, the car would have issues in all the gears, and when stopped and lights and stuff, which isn't the case.
