Potential problem with valve seals (need advice)

I was just putting on my new turbo kit when I saw this:

Looks like I have a couple of valves leaking oil. Seems like I need to replace the valve seals. The valves are also white, looking like I ran lean quite a lot. Anything else I should look for?

Thanks. -Pete

No replies? No one can give me input on this?

Anyways it looks like I have:
  • cylinder #1 intake valves leaking
  • and cylinder #3 exhaust valves leaking.

I just ran a compression test and the results were pretty positive:
  • cyl #1: 180
  • cyl #2: 175
  • cyl #3: 173
  • cyl #4: 178

no clue man, I would just replace them if you have the head off. I think i paid $80 for a head set kit that had all the gaskets and stem seals. Car hasn't lost or burnt a drop of oil since.

pull the head replace all seals, clean the rockers, get valves reseated and lapped, do timing components and she'll run like new...it's not a full rebuild but it does wonders.

you can even bump up compression a bit, and port it if you want...but just new seals and a good cleaning should be fine...

Thanks for the input. For now, I'll take the risk and install the setup. Hopefully nothing will break.

No need to pull the head (or even the timing belt or camshaft) to change valve seals! I can change all the seals on a 4g94 in under two hours. With the rocker shaft off the head, it's a perfect time to clean out and bleed your hydraulic lash adjusters to get rid of the annoying tick most of these cars develop.

Buy a valve cover gasket and a valve seal set and you're good to go.
