A shop told me they could build me a supercharger for $6000. They said I would run with an M3.

6k is way to much. Better to go with a turbo.

Turbo Turbo Turbo You don't want to supercharge a 4 banger. You want a turbo, I want a turbo, everyone wants a turbo. No really the turbo would be a much better choice it is way better on the motor, fuel econ, your pocket book,it sounds cool, and your 4 banger gets alot power at higher R.P.M. and that is were the turbo kicks in the juice.
So I like the turbo...................................

I'm actually with the SC on this.. it's cheaper, and cheaper to maintain. That 6K is such a rip off it's not even funny. And, that you'd be keeping up with M3s? They're trying to rape you.

The supercharger that RPW offers will get you the EXACT SAME amount of boost that other turbos are using, but, the only problem is this: it's sucking in HOT air. But, if a intercooler could be somehow rigged, that would cease to be a problem, and a hell of alot cheaper in the long run. Not to mention the fact that it would also be a bit easier on the engine...

Again, normally, it's CHEAPER TO SUPERCHARGE even on initial cost and parts.

The supercharger costs so much, because it would be totaly custom built.
I still would prefer a turbo.

Okay, either I have been misinformed, or was just under a wrong impression, but, I thought that superchargers were cheaper than turbos. If I was wrong, i apologize. However, I still say I'd rather wait for a supercharger than a turbo simply due to the fact that a stand alone computer system isn't necessary to control over a certain level of boost. SC are upgradable to higher amounts of boost, and since they are belt driven, they will go at the same rate as the engine naturally, and not need to be told to. Really, all I think that would be necessary to upgrade would be the fuel delivery system (rails, pump, pressurizer, injectors) simply to keep the engine from running lean, something that you would need to upgrade if you got a turbo anyways.

I think that people forget to factor the computer controls in to the cost of a turbo, and, that is an extra 1-1.5K in addition to the actual turbo cost and installation itself. Not to mention the tuning the computer would need... Aw screw it, I couldn't afford either option anyway, so, what does it matter?

N/A for a looooong time to come.

I think that superchargers are usually cheaper than turbos. I was just talking about a custom one.
