4G93 head swap
So I got a 4G93 head and I am going to install it myself but I have a few questions that I just can't seem to get straight.
Do I set the crank to TDC and the cam to TDC before putting the head on?
A mechanic friend said to take off the 4g94 head and set the pistons to all the same level and then put the head on and set everything to TDC.
I just want to get this clarified because I am replacing the head because I messed up my timing and bent a valve and I don't want to have it happen again.
Also, will I need to "tune" anything since the 4g93 cam is different, I tried a search around the forum and read some people had rough idle.

and yes I have the 4G93 cam position sensor already :P

Once I get my car working again I will consider a turbo in the 'hopefully' near future, $$ talks. I just got a job working at Advance Auto as a driver so I am learning a lot from all the mechanics I meet, and getting a paycheck again will be pretty sweet as well .

Dirty!
After a little hand brushing with a brass brush and some Brakleen non-clorinated:
I really miss driving my lancer, my mother's 2010 Corolla just isn't the same .

Got another question I can't seem to get a straight answer to.
What (if anything) should I use gasket sealer on when putting the head back on? Intake, exhaust, head gasket, valve cover gasket, cam position sensor housing, thermostat housing?
Then the next question is what kind of gasket sealer? hard like Permatex Ultra Black, or non hardening?

Sealant
Ultra Black is apparently recommended.
From the 2003 FSM; There is a gasket shown on page 11B-19
From the sealant and adhesive table, page 00-55:
"Between rocker cover and
camshaft bearing cap.
Between rocker cover,
semicircular packing and
cylinder head. Between oil
pressure switch and engine.
3M AAD Part No. 8660
Ultrapro High Temp. Silicone
Gasket or 3M AAD Part No. 8679
Black/8678 Black Press-In-
Place Silicone gasket strips"
or
"Permatex Ultra Black
598, No.82180"
I also see sealant MD970389 referenced a lot, for internal parts like the oil pump.
Mitsu calls this a Rocker cover, which threw me for a minute.
Having the FSM is a godsend, even for my 04 OZ. a year off is not much.

Reading more, I need to finish this to earn points:
Water pump Mitsubishi Genuine Part No.MD970389 or equivalent As required
Thermostat case Mitsubishi Genuine Part No.MD970389 or equivalent As required
Engine coolant temperature sensor 3M AAD Part No.8731 or equivalent As required
Engine coolant temperature gauge unit 3M AAD Part No.8672 or equivalent As required
Oil pressure switch 3M AAD Part No.8672 or equivalent As required
Water outlet fitting Mitsubishi Genuine Part No.MD970389 or equivalent As required
Front case Mitsubishi Genuine Part No.MD970389 or equivalent As required
Oil pan Mitsubishi Genuine Part No.MD970389 or equivalent As required
Oil seal case Mitsubishi Genuine Part No.MD970389 or equivalent As required
Drive plate bolt 3M AAD Part No.8731 or equivalent As required
Flywheel bolt 3M AAD Part No.8731 or equivalent As required
Camshaft position sensor support Mitsubishi Genuine Part No.MD970389 or equivalent As required
Intake and Exhaust manifold drawings show no sealant callout, apparently MD970389 is an RTV sealant, some people use Ultra Grey. Something well-known will probably work. Experience with gaskets is mixed from what I see.
