How ? Engine cover removal

I have a 2002 lancer I want to remove the engine cover so I can properly clean it and paint it . I unscrew and try to pry it the front lifts up a little but it just won't come off.

Wait... what?! you are prying on the valve cover (rocker cover in full service manual)? If this is what you are talking about there are 6 bolts holding it down and they are torqued very low, like barely hand tight (especially for a stronger fella). You shouldn't need a pry bar to get this item off.

I wasn't using a pry bar . I was using a screw driver to open it up so I can just take it off . I was very gentle when trying to open it.

But is don't see a 6th screw . There's 3 in the front 2 in the back .

There are 6. Use your eyes man. Then once all 6 are out use your hands and arms to pull the valve cover off.

And I sure hope you have new gaskets.

Yeah man, this definitely shouldn't take so much effort. As mentioned previously you should definitely replace that gasket while you're at it. Let us know how you make out.

It should come right off. I'm a chic and I have never had a problem. Definitely replace the gasket!
