Question 4B12 Swap Questions

I've posted awhile back and got some useful information.

I spun a rod bearing in my 2010 GTS (4b12 5-spd), and I'm having trouble finding options for motor swapping.

#1. I read that the 4b11 should be a direct swap when it comes to mounts and trans, but what are my options when it comes to ecu?
#2. I know the outlander uses a variation of 4b12, is that compatible with my '10 GTS?
#3. LQK motors are all over ebay, but I've read a ton of bad reviews. Any advice on buying used motors?

Those are my main points, any additional advice is greatly appreciated. Also, no I'm not interested in modding or getting a HP gain. I just want to get back on the road.

Dmiller23,
#1 Yes a 4B11 can go where a 4B12 was and vice-versa. The ecu can be interchanged between the 2 engines only if the ROM I.D occurs at the same address i.e. 5002a or 5002e. Later 4B11 ecus (somewhere in 2010 for MY2011) have the ROM version I.D at 5002e and will not work with earlier 4B11 or 4B12 ecus with I.D at 5002a. You can bench flash the ROM into the ecu, but the engine will not run.
#2 Outlander 4B12 is a perfectly compatible donor and would be my 1st choice.
#3 Never buy a "reconditioned" engine on ebay!

Thank you for the info! I see low-mileage outlander motors for sale all over the place. I'll make sure to give those a good look.

Also keep in mind that 4B12s are found in Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep and Hyundai/Kia vehicles too. Some of the external parts are different but the engine itself is the same (not gdi versions).
Outlander is probably the best choice - least likely to be flogged to death, better quality control during manufacture than the others....

Regarding The Swap - 2009 Lancer GTS

You may have to swap the ecu over but maybe not. If your existing 4B11 has an egr valve, then you will need a 4B12 or earlier 4B11 ecu, if not, then you can probably recovery flash a 4B12 ROM onto the existing ecu.
Please tell me this effort is for a 5MT.....

I am in a similar situation where I am getting a "Spark Knock". Via either the Intake And/Or Exhaust Cam Shaft Lobes are hitting into what it appears to be Worn Valve Tappets/Valve Lifters which press into its respective Intake/Exhaust Valves during its 4-Stroke Cycle. When NUR Performance in Ft Myers troubleshooted my problem (or at least attempted to for $150.00 down the toilet) they just recommended that I completely rebuild my engine. I would figure an accurate diagnosis would cost much more to figure out if the Oil Pump isn't delivering enough oil to my Engine Assembly and Finding actual Valve Tappets (which are Manual Tappets) are next to impossible to find since Mitsubishi has quoted that there are 76 Tappets available for the lancer but trying to find replacement tappets alone is the hardest part let alone correct size Tappets for Camshaft Lobe and Valve Assembly clearance so here I am in a similiar bind trying to find a swappable 09-10 Outlander 4b12 Engine to get me on the road again while I am in the process of lifting my old engine out to accurately diagnosis the issue and eventually modify, replace senors, replace neccesarry gaskets and clean the living **** out the old engine to prep it for turbo. I am also looking for a Manual Transmission Assembly and/or even considering swapping out this old engine for a Ralliart Engine & SST Transmission that I am thinking about putting in the GTS and get the frame "Jerry Rigged" for more space to make the swap possible.

Can I swap the CVT for SST?

I have a question;

I have a GT Sportback and I’m sick of the CVT transmission. I’m wondering if I can swap it out for the SST transmission that comes in the evo X? Will it mount up to the 4b12 engine? Also if I can, what other things would I need besides the new trans and an ecu flash?
