Questions....

Okay, firstly, a throttle body does exactly what? I've only heard a few things. And won't 4 inlet too much air. How does this work? I know I'm a n00b in this field, but someone please explain in the plainest of terms. And I'm confused, isn't this kinda like carborators? Ack!! Someone explain. It's something I would definitely be interested in.

Also explain the tuning process of a QuadTB and how to make them perform better and the pros/cons of what you would tune.

Thanks!

I believe they require removal of the MAS and replacement of fuel management with a better fuel system to compensate. When you step on the gas you open the butterfly (flippy disk thing) on the throttle and allow air into your intake manifold. That's a pretty simple explaination of it, but it should give you an idea. It allows you to pull a lot of air without turbocharging. You've got a lot more airflow without forced induction basically.

Better to answer here and help other people with the same question than e-mail and have people in the future left in the dark. ...assuming anyone ever runs a search on this forum.

well yeah..thats the idea...to get more air...but then you have to match it with the correct amount of fuel.

WTH with the snide comment? He was the first testbed for Quads on a mirage in the US, and at the same time trying to finish up his project Maxima (completed) and now 1g GSX . . . nobody that I know can tackle 3 project cars at one time. On two, yes. It's call finance.

He has already taken in the account for the Hal, but it took him awhile to understand the program and its tuning. I'm sure you're going to face that problem too. It's not as easy as tuning the S-AFC or Greddy E-manage (both piggyback).

Are you saying you can get Quads up and running within 3 months or less, especially w/o a second car?

Bahamut it's not a snide comment what I meant was that with any project there are the time/money issues and it's something we all go through as for tuning experience I am fortunate to know some people who are responsible for a nice mitsu drag called sakura they will be doing all my tuning on either road i take and I do have a second car a old but quick se-r but I respect your friend for 3 projects at once he must be a talented tuner or a extreme enthusiast all props go to him NOt 3 months I actually don't have a time estimate because that may get me anxious but I hope next summer definatly need so save like a bansheee

Also did he ever get any dyno numbers on his mirage project

Hey let's all just chill, whatever. He got it done, that's the point, and he's pretty damn brave for being the test car. But I have another question.

Quad TB running, stuffing lotsa air into the engine. This will require a hell of a alot of fuel to burn. 4x the regular amount am I right? Well given that you don't tune it right, then your engine will blow. So the Haltech system is basically a fuel management system that acts as it's own MAS and fuel regulator? Like an AFC?

Thanks for being patient with my baseness.

A NA car never stuffs air into the engine, that's what forced induction is (turbo, supercharger, and I guess ram-air kind of).

The Haltech is a standalone engine management system that can control fuel delivery and ignition timing to try to get the right fuel and spark for the amount of air you're taking in.

An AFC sends modified signals to a stock ECU to trick it into supplying more or less fuel at given RPM and load levels. It doesn't do anything about ignition control.

He's about 98% completed and has fired the car up to drive around a couple of blocks (I wasn't there). Now, I think he's waiting for a part (not sealing properly) that was having air by-pass (idles rough). Afterwards, I do believe he's going to tune it further on the dyno. This is all third hand info from him . . . there will be a day when he fires up the car with the local mirage guys.

The RPW guys knows him . . . so does the 1st distributor of RPW in Phantomracing (he deals with him)..

Sakura - Yes. That car is a legend amongst the mirage drivers in the US. A 4g drag Mirage w/ a starion 2.6L 4 banger and TC. It has broken into the 7 sec mark in PR way before Adam S in his RX-7 even hit the 9 sec mark.
