Witnessed the difference?
omg hearing this story makes me want to get that turbo kit even sooner... geez. I want it now!??! lol. Gatta wait for at least my bumper to bumper warranty to be up. =/ lol, I love that kids "custom setup". It looks like a bunch of used parts and a POS manifold that was just welded together with junkyard parts. Its not even a good weld at that, look at where it connects to the turbo lol. While not running a filter ONCE AND A WHILE is ok, I wouldn't do it on a daily basis. That is only if you want your engine life to be longer.

i wanna see that sweet vid
but lets not overgeneralize: if someone knew what they were doing, a custom kit could be cheaper, as/more reliable and as/more powerful than any rrm kit.
just so happens you raced someone that perhaps could have done more research themselves, i dunno
take omarboy for example, mark you wanna challenge him?

marc that is a beautiful thing, in the long run we all have to show a little bit of respect for people trying to pull some power out of the lancer, but this is a good example of when it comes down to people talking **** about spending the extra $ on the rrm kit, they cannot support their arguements, good **** son, good ****.

I'm not even gonna sit here and dog RRM, because their products are top notch.
However, that "custom" turbo kit looks like it was done by a 5 year old. I am sure with the proper parts, research, customizing, time and of course $ you could build an insane custom kit and be a step ahead of the game. However, the majority of people do not want to spend the time( as you can clearly see). This last week I have been contimplating hard about an RRM turbo kit I/C for my automatic and I think RRM might be getting my call soon.
I realize im not going to get top speed out of it, since I am on air ride, have a fiberglassed trunk with lots of audio equipment, etc, but I do want the more pep to the car and not to mention RRM didnt only do R&D on the turbo kit but they also spent the time to make it look nice with no welds all over the place.
Props to RRM and imapunk, that looks really good. Only thing I think im gonna do is get a bigger IC to fill the entire Ken Style FB.

You guys are ridiculous. RRM research and development. Any dumbass with money can assemble off the shelf parts into a kit.
Did RRM develop the T-28? No.
Did they develop the wastegate? No. (they set the spring, big deal)
Did they develop the BOV? No.
Did they develop a manifold? No
Did they develop the fuel management? No (they did fool around (researched) the required off the shelf parts)
Did they develop the oil feed and return system? No (its all the same fittings and pieces made for DSM's.)
What they did develop.
Up and downpipes- a shortcut basically, a manifold is a ***** to make.
The piping. (Once again any dumbass with a welder and some mandrel bent pipe can make this)
A zombie nation of uninformed followers and a few paid ones to draw more in- They only thing that took any talent was to take a bunch of technological dummies on evom.net and answer their silly questions with shameless product plugs and create a hero out of one particular owner.
You guys want to whine about the rust on that kit. Well guess what, that **** is made of metal. Metal rusts. Is this a new concept? Probably for some of you. I do not care for the lack of filter. That is scary, so I agree with some of you on that.
I like how no one gives any stats on the custom kit. I bet it is running a t-3 or t3-4 hybrid. Of course a t-28 will pull on it at first. No one mentioned the psi that was being run either. Stage 2 RRM running over 10psi vs 7-8psi on the other is what I am guessing. Most likely another unfair comparison.
This can go on forever. Feel free to flame me. I encourage it.

RRM stage 2 runs 8.5-9psi tops... if you are the greatest at the custom turbo stuff then that's great. Can't wait to see your car turbo'd pulling better times and speeds.
The guys kit is custom... it has a lot of faults in it as most can see and suprisingly it was done by a shop! I'd be getting my money back. The biggest downfall of the custom guy was making the challenge as if his car was the fastest thing with that setup. Sounds like someone has filled his as* full of smoke!! I know RRM hasn't deceived any customer on their kits. They deliver exactly what they are said to.
As for a zombie nation of followers we all are in ways... we all have cars when bicycles are available, we all watch TV when we can go to the park and play, we all eat fast food when we could just go to the store and fix ourselves something for half the cost! Society as a whole follows thing that are easy and known to be true. You're no better than anyone else so don't go posting as if you are.
Props to Imapunkclaimer and his kit... he paid for it and put a lot of time into it. He deserves the recognition. He's also a smart shopper... everything on his car he got used practically. A few things he got new but he saved his cash and waited for the deals. He's a smart shopper and patient guy. You really shouldn't disrespect him like that... its uncalled for.
As for R&D on kits well if you don't think their kit is worth it cause you can do better then don't buy it. RRM doesn't care... hell they sell lots of kits minus turbo's, fuel stuff, etc as customers just want certain parts. They've been there to help a lot of people with their knowledge that came from R&D'ing THE CAR!! It's not just the kit that was developed but the car that was fully tested as well.
Good luck to you sir and your fountain of knowledge... may they serve you well and guide you in your paths ahead!

As far as I know, a 4G94 turbo'd is a 4G94 turbo'd.. same class car. Most likely same weight, same driverterain, assuming you are not using nitrous. It seems fair to me, just looks like someone lost due to having a poorly engineered custom kit.

but until we know exactly what the other guy was running, it IS comparing apples to oranges. plain and simple. how do we know he wasn't running some POS turbo? or a super low psi?
Oh, I couldn't agree more. I'm really interested in 1) exactly what that guy was running, and 2) what that shop told him about his setup. Might give some insight as to why he was talking trash. Or maybe he's just a tool.
