high wing pointless on a lancer?

Well, at least there an answer to one of my questions:
This full carbon spoiler features OEM style assembly and downforce specs, with included hardware and instructions. 7 piece spoiler assembly. Fully UV protected, twill carbon construction. Has bolt holes for installation on Lancers, or Evo 8s. ------------------------------------------OEM Spoiler weight:Approx 10 lbs --------------Cerious Spoiler Weight:Approx 8 lbs --------- Includes installation instructions. Note:When installed on 04-05 Lancer, stock wing holes will have to be extended for correct fit.

OUR PRICE: $399.99
It's quite expensive though... I could never afford that. It's not even painted at that price...

Its full CF, you're not meant to paint it. If you want a color matched spoiler, just buy an ABS one from your dealership, the weight savings from the CF are pretty much negated by the paint anyways and if you're not gonna show it off whats the point?
-
I'd never install a mismatched part on my car... appart from that middle CF part that I could live with. And yes, I figured it has to be the fact that theirs is completely made out of CF that makes it expensive... but then again, at least they state that theirs offers the same downforce level as the OEM wing.
I wouldn't have a problem in the world painting over CF... and I couldn't care less about putting 2 more pounds on the car either. It's the price that's a factor on this one. I'll try to find that post about the aftermarket wing that everyone seemed to be satisfied with. I think it sells for 300$US and comes already painted to match the car. If I can get any kind of guaranty that it does apply the same downforce on the back of the car, it probably will be my best bet...

Just buy a cheap plastic one then, you're not gonna notice any difference in terms of downforce and it'll be a lot cheaper. I'm sure they can "guarantee" that it offers the same downforce as OEM, but in all likeliness they'd probably be lying since I haven't heard of any company actually doing wind tunnel tests on a 300$ wing.

Okay, I found the one that's been posted about last week. It's 249$US + 50$ shipping... so yeah, 300$US.

Spoiler is OEM Certified as a factory replacement.
That's probably as close to the real thing as it's gonna get... so I guess I just have to start saving now.

Back to the rear tie bar....
The bushings that keep the rear camber where it's set are soft. a tie bar, well it ties both sides of the rear lower arms together and doesn't allow the bushings to flex independently. The camber is then set statically, not dynamically. Without the ability to move the tires get squirrely because the rear arms are now basically a solid beam axle- like your mom's minivan or an old VW. I didn't do much testing, but I believe the tires will roll to the outside during turns pretty severely, making their grip almost nil. I nearly spun taking a regular corner. UrbanKnight had nothing but problems at the one AX event he went to with the bar on- he couldn't keep the car from spinning.
Tie bar = not good.

Puts things in perspective for me then... thanks for the info. That means that the tie bar is definitely not what I'm looking for to cure understeer. And I can't see why it would help with high speed stability either.
So I'm left with the high-wing solution for the stability problem (more expensive, but sounds like a logical option)... and with no real solution for my understeer problem. I have good rubber under the car and I've been playong with pressures all summer long. I've found my optimal pressures over time... but it still didn't cure most of the understeer. The car just pushes like crazy in medium speed turns (70 - 90 Km/h, about uh... 40 to 50 Mph?). I thought the tie bar could limit the body roll that I think is the origin of the problem and seems to be initiated at the back of the car...
I wonder if the new springs might cure part of the problem though... I decided to wait until spring to install them (a lowered car is bound to be more of a problem in 6 to 7 inches of snow)...

i've been reading this thread, lots of good info... i also think the wing looks sweet on a lancer, and im actually pretty anti-rice and anti-wing in general.. ! it just fits the lancer nicely unlike most aftermarket wings, or just most wings altogether.
never knew about the tie-bar... if it's so horrible, how come they sell it? I don't understand.. ! isn't it pretty useless if it pretty much makes the car as if it didn't have independant suspension?

Well, as far as the tie bar is concerned, it may only be that the ES and OZ are not the best application for it. The feedback has been great as far as the RA is concerned. But once an aftermarket part is available and is known to fit any Lancer, people will jump on it only because there are so few mods available for our cars...
And you're right about the wings. I'm still not even sure I want one on my car... I've never been a huge fan of them either. But if there's any chance that it cures my instability problem, I can live with the looks... and this wing is the only one that really looks okay on the car anyway. That still leaves me with the problem of finding an affordable yet decent quality wing... not an easy task at all, but might have found it (see the link I posted earlier in the thread).

UPDATE. I called the company today to see what the heck was going on, and they said it was painted and shipped 4 days ago, they gave me a tracking number. turns out it will be here tomorrow.
so i would say not bad, i paid for it on the 7th and they were able to paint it and have it shipped to my door the 19th (tomorrow) 12 days not bad concidering the fact that they deal with thousand of parts and peoples emails. He said sorry about not sending the tracking number and that its hard to keep up with the hundreds of emails he gets a day. But i'd say thats fairly quick since i was under the impression that it hadnt even been painted yet. Anyways ill post pics tomorrow!!!
