EVO 8 vs. WRX

Hey I haven't had the chance to actually see a EVO 8 on the road, or even test drive it...But I have driven a WRX...if any of you have driven both...how would you say they compare and constrast to each other??? I'm talking about the U.S. versions.

I have driven the us wrx in 3 occasions. I can't imagine the Evo being anything like the WRX.

I don't know about autox but at the track I goto there is a guy with a WRX that runs 8.50's in the 1/8 mile and he has about $9000 in upgrades(no that's not a typo $9000), I have less than that in my entire car and i run 8.40's. The guy is cool and said that the car isn't really geared for drag racing, but with what he has in the car it should run way better than that.

Been a handful of mag tests. The EVO is clearly superior to the WRX in just about any catagory you might wanna pick. Only area that I'd be inclined to give the WRX a nod is gravel/rally-cross. The suspension(stock) is softer, giving it a more rounded handling envelope. That being said, it does take the edgyness of tarmac handling away, no way in hell that a stocker WRX is gonna hang with an EVO(asphalt).

Engine? Hmm. Both are 2.0's. The EVO suffers less from lag, but both are really "un-laggy" anyways, so thats almost a moot point. Forged internals on the EVO again outclass the WRX. Saving grace for the WRX here? Many MANY years of aftermarket(remember the WRX has been in europe and Japan for awhile). Mid 12's are common, with a few guys dipping into the 11's without nitrous. Boxer engine layout is snazzy too, if just for being different.

Asthetics...I will open that can or worms, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Price, right now you poor EVO guys are takin it in the butt. Dealers being *** clowns with markups, that'll go away soon enough. Then the price/performace ratio will settle down and both will be excellent bang for the buck.

*dons flame suit* .....but the STi. Now there is something that has aftermarket guys drooling. Forged internals and 2.5 liters displacement. That nifty torque selector(why in GODS name did Mitsu not put that on the EVO? Were they smoking crack?). We as enthusiats are at the second dawn of the "muscle" car era. Except now the muscle is high-revving techno craft, oh its gonna be fun to watch the EVO and the STi destroy most other cars for a few years....then there is the RX8.......

well as you can see from my name, i'm a subaru fan. BUT i also want to say that at one point i was a huge subaru fan and looked down at the evos, but i gradually developed an appreciation for the evo8 and started liking it more and more. and i came to the point where i'd actually debate if i'd get an sti or an evo8. so you could say i'm 50/50 on this matter. but i'm still hoping to buy an 04 wrx in the near future cuz of its stellar pricing

first off i wanna say that the evo8 vs wrx is not a fair match at all. a more fair match would be the evo8 vs the wrx's bigger brother, the sti. the sti and evos are and have always been rivals, constantly being compared to one another in magazine articles and such, and the evo has always come on top. but now in the u.s. that's about to change with the sti's monstrous hp/torque though i'm sure it's gonna be really close. should be fun to watch

yeah the people at mitsu must've been on crack when they didn't put in the dccd.

oh and the rx8 doesn't even compete with these cars in terms of straight line speed and power, it excels in the tight turns and corners. with its 159 ft-lb of torque, it isn't going anywhere quick. haha

hope to learn a lot about the evo in this here forum

Seriously the RX-8...renesis rotary engine is terrible...they sucked the power out of that one...time to make one with forced induction, maybe twins if possible.

My friend just got one and let me tell you I love this car. Unfortunatly I will have to stick with my 2.5 Rs and throw an sti motor in when I'm done paying off. Barely punching it due to the break in period it just feels like it's about to take off like a bat out of hell. But in all honesty the sti will have 30 more horsepower and ft lbs of tourqe. The sti will whoop on it but I love just thinking about both of the cars so I don't really care.

The renesis engine had to bow to emission standards. That sapped power. I was mentioning the RX8, cuz I'm PRAYING that it'll show up on our shores with a pair of turbos tucked somewhere in the engine bay. Figure a 27-32 thou base price, that will translate to a...what..uh 37-40 thou TT package? Seats for four folks, impeccable handling. Yeah, it'll be a sweetheart of a car.
