For the record, ONLY a safety item will be a recall. There was never a recall issued on this repair, for any car, only a TSB. There is a permanent fix for this but it requires 2 things. 1) you must get the entire fix done. If you only do part of it it will not work. 2) you must get it done BEFORE you break the heater controls. If the knob breaks it will cost you over $200.00 for the controls alone. If you are out of warranty at least change the filter and the cam kit.

There are two TSB's issued for this. The first one deals with the installing the cam kit and the filter. The second deals with installing the cam kit, the filter AND the door kit.

For those of you still under warranty, get into your dealer, tell them the problem you are having and get it fixed.

Yeah I've got an 04 and when i first bought the car in july (it was a year used) the knobs were really hard to turn. now they are still difficult but alright i guess. you would think that after the past 4 or 5 years mitsu would simply fix the problem.

The latest TSB tells us to replace the filter, the cam kit and the fresh air door inside the heater case. It has been upgraded to prevent any binding issues inside the case. It's about an 8 hour job. If your car is under warranty get it done. It will suck bigtime and cost you a lot of $$$ if you wait and your car goes out of warranty. Remember, if you wait too long you will have to replace all of the broken parts yourself and that will set you back some $$$.

There has been a fix since march of 04. They will fix the problem but here is the tough part, you have to take it in for them to fix it. Telling us will not get the job done. There is a repair and a process to fix these kinds of things IF you take it in. If you don't then you can't complain about them not fixing it.
