what is the weakest link in the lancer?
It's definately the engine, and in the engine it's definately the pistons first, and the pencil rods second. The lancer can be fast, but you just need some motivation. Mine just so happens to be sitting on my dresser.

Figure out what ES stands for and you will have your answer. The LS and OZ are just aperance packages above that, those three cars are all the same though. (aside from trim, wheels and minour suspention changes)

I have people come up to me ALL THE TIME and call my car a lancer. I get pissed cuz they dont realize that it's not a lancer....they are different cars. IMO the Lancer is the econobox to go with if that's the class of car you are lookin for. I like the styling WAY better than corollas, civics, neons, whatever else falls into that category. And if you are in the market for a street legal race car....evo lol
As for the engines being similar.......no
the 4G63 in the evo has been used for....what is it? almost 2 decades now? I mean obviously the one in the evo is different than in old DSMs but these engines are awesome. The 4G94 in the lancer....isn't anything special. Im not saying it's crap...i had a 2003 OZ before the evo and I know what you can do with that engine. With some work you can make good power.

You wanted a performance vehicle, but you bought an economy car. Plain and simple.
can say whatever they want about "rally heritage" and "OZ Rally Edition", but the Lancer is simply not set up for performance. The engine is tuned for economy and MPG. The suspension is tuned for comfort and the soccer moms that usually drive them.
So here's the question - what are you going to do about it? You can either make it a performance vehicle (tuning, aftermarket parts) or you can continue to complain about it.
(Sorry, I just get tired of people complaining. Marketing, shmarketing, you knew what you were getting.)

I LIKE THAT. NOW, STOP BICKERIN AND WORK ON YOUR CAR!

And I have been proven wrong. I though it was Economy Sport when in a 2 door sence but when in a 4-door (sedan) it was economy sedan.
They say you learn something new everyday, I learned this today, I guess I can leave work now till tomorow. LOL
