"Deric Massie of Mason, Ohio, purportedly dumped $80,000 into his 2001 Type R with the help of BASZ Racing" for "13.25 sec with turbo and nitrous".

If money was no object to the lancer guys, they would have gone the route like the ITR owner in the above links. Now, that's money well spent!!! But, he gets mad props from his H&A crew, such a farce lame brainer.

Now, if a DSM'er had gone this route and have gotten such times, he would have been laughed out of the US as a fool.

Well I guess most americans think 80 grand is a lot of money for a 13 second car.... Maybe in europe 80k american would be worth like 10 quid... but in America, 80 grand is 80 grand.

i read some of the first page but not the rest.
I had an evo 8 and wrecked it. I am thinking about picking up a lancer for dirt cheap and making the transfer, but i just worried about the problems. Cutting and welding isnt a problem for me though.

Well a dozen or more people have claimed they were going to do it but so far no one has. Everyone has either just been BSing or backed out for some reason or another (cost, boredom, etc).

On the Ralliart side we've had two AWD projects. One was pretty much complete until the car was stolen (but that was a 4G69/Outlander AWD system project) the other is currently in progress. The one in progress is a full 4G63/Evo drivetrain swap.

I've come to believe that the project isn't really hard to do, since the Evos and Lancers share the exact same unibody. Hell, most of the holes are already there on the Lancer. The issue is cost. If you can get parts cheap, for example, by picking up a wrecked Evo with a good drivetrain, then the project is doable. But there will be compromises and what you end up with won't be a full fledged Evo. More like a fast AWD Lancer. The big differences are that you won't be widebody (unless you swap out most body panels), you won't have the aluminum suspension parts, particularly in front (won't fit without Evo fenders) and you won't have brembos (won't fit without Evo suspension parts.)

AWD Lancer

While i was stationed in Yokosuka, JP, i finally came face to face with the Lancer Cedia awd. I have to say after inspecting it and looking closely under the car, there was no difference in the car, except the JDM gas tank and the rear suspension/ control arms, if you look at the rear where the control arms meet you will see some holes there, that is where the rear-end diff bolts up to, and of course the transmission and the GDI engine. So i bought it for 3000 dollars on the Navy base. It feels like a totally different car, same HP but it was AWD. There's no cutting into the frame of the Lancer, maybe weld some brackets but that is it. No one in the states have done the conversion cuz it's cost alot, unlessss......you go to Japan or Know someone there to get the parts from the JunkYard. All the junk cars and crashed cars or old cars go to the big JUNK YARD, which is located in Okinawa, JP. If you was stationed there, i promise you that you would be in car heaven. The Airforce guys can fly there parts over for free.

Wow, I can't believe this thread is still here... Well, sadly the plan's no more for me. I was visiting my brother at the Toyota dealership he works at, and my lancer's tranny died. So, I used it for a trade in and got a Scion tC. I miss my lancer, but I love having a two door again.

the trany would been a easy fix...

as for the awd thingy.. from the other threads i seen, it was/is all bs as no one followed through with their plans. dont take it the wrong way, its good idea, but well no lancer owner will ever do it. best bet was/is to do the turbo kit option

If you want AWD and you really like the regular lancer look...

I was thinking it would be easier and cheaper to obtain an Evo with body damage and swap the body panels off of a regular lancer on to it. All that is left to sort out the suspension to get the wheels back under the fenders.

There's a sleeper for ya.

Wow you're not kidding. I tried to import the Evo 8 body kit from some asian country when I had my Lancer. Totally would have been worth the price.
