I can't believe I just saw this thread...

This is the current status of my car, and I might as well bring it up in public now since Rob (RRM) already knows that I'm the one doing it:

All this work done at home... by two guys. I'm not saying anything else but that.

I must ask mark, what are you using for the rear end and subframe. Is it from the evo or outlander? If using the evo, how are you getting around how the top of the struts are mounted problem?

I'm using a bit of both the evo and my stock lancer's suspension components... as for getting it all to work together... I won't disclose anything on here yet until the build is finished.

It IS quite a hassle... but it is possible with a little bit of ingenuity and dedication. After all... isn't that what it takes to be unique?

Personally, I think its a good idea to swap a motor like this. Having something different is the point behind doing stuff like this. One that has been mentioned is that some people can't afford and evo or insurance for it. They can afford a base model and have to work their way up from there. Your right, it ain't no evo, but will at least run like one. I too will probably never afford an evo. If I went for one right now, I know my payments would be well over $450 or so a month and who knows what the insurance would be. I'm not working some slave hard working factory job just to have one either. But i can save up over time and do a swap like this without working my butt off to afford it. I'm at work right now enjoying myself typing this post. Thats why I can't afford evo. The fact is that things like this show we aren't limited to just the 4g94 or 4g69 motors and that front wheel drive isn't the only option.

Very few people mod to be different (especially when they see the price tag associated with being unique), they generally mod because they want more performance or they want a specific look. As far as insurance goes, you can't simply mod a lancer to within an inch of its life and pass it off as stock, if your insurance finds out, they may simply drop you altogether or deny you coverage in the event of an accident (since you are not driving the car they agreed to insure). When I was considering turboing my car, I talked to my insurance company to make sure all the new mods would be covered. A motor swap like this is outside of the capabilities of most people, they simply don't have the money or time to spend doing it.

I agree... to an extent. You see... it's not that I can't afford to own an EVO or anything... it's just that why should I own one? Around my area, I see more EVOs than I see modified Lancers. Why should I be like them? I spent a lot of time and money just to make my Lancer look different from everyone else's... and that's because I don't want a car that looks like some other dude's car.

Another thing is that I wanted to see just HOW FAR I can take my Lancer. To be honest... I was just about to build up my stock motor and turbo it when the opportunity to swap the 4g63 MIVEC motor and drivetrain into my car came about. I just about jumped on this chance right away... even with people doubting me left and right. Even during this build I almost gave up many times... it is a lot of hard work. But we've been learning a lot from this build, and not only is my car being taken to its limit... so is my dedication.

Bro, I commend you for doing this. It's quite an amazing thing, I can NOT wait to see how it turns out. Dedication and patience the two virtues that any one should have when dealing with cars.
