Discouraged...
i have thought about it long and hard too, thing is i love the way my lancer looks but not the way it performs, for the time its a great car to drive but when i get more money i think instead of getting a turbo for 4k i will sell the car and probably buy the 08 lancer which has some great potential
think about it, i am not trying to put you down but after you get a turbo you are basically stuck at 200hp, you will need another 4k to keep up with other turbo'd cars. The 08 lancer runs 15 seconds 1/4 mile, that is just 1 second slower than the 220 hp turbo srt-4, and its going to be a heck of a lot more reliable.
Yeah dont let them get you down man. I had a very simular experience:
Went to get my oil changed (cause I wanted the free car wash ,lol) and when they poped my hood 2 guys came running over. When they saw my little sohc 4g94 they both said "what tha....." and looked at me like they were better that I was and laughed. I also have a short ram intake. Oh and I saw one of those guys get into his car when he went on his lunch break. It was an old rusted (yes rusted) honda prelude with those cheap 15 inch chrome 3 spoke wheels and a dual tip muffler that was super loud. lol.
Just dont listen to the haters.

the only thing i have done to my lancer is add an intake for performance.
I did add a decent sound system and some nice rims.
But i never considered anything to extreme because i have always looked at upgrading to an evo.
You should mod your car as much as you want but always keep in mind how much$ your going into it and what other possibilities that money can go towards I.E a faster car or something else. I personally would never get an older car than the one i drive it just doesn't make sense in my head. Unless u plan to keep your newer car lol. So if anything save up for the 08 lancer.

I think my fiance' said it best: "No car is ever going to be fast enough for you, you're always going to want to modify something" Naturally, that just encourages me to spend more money on my little ES. So look, if you don't like the car, sell it and get something that you do, but don't let some dorky mechanics that work at some lame oil change place ruin it for you. I know what it's like to drive something you don't like, having previously driven a Sentra and a 5th ave, but I really enjoy my Lancer. Don't let some idiot mechanics ruin your car for you. Besides, it's not like you shelled out ten grand in mods, it's just an intake. That's just the beginning. And, it's not like they can afford anything faster changing oil for a living. I agree, ignore the haters. Drive something other than a Honda.

I still think lancer guys are cobbling too much parts w/o much results unlike the miragers and except for the ones in PR.
If you go turbo, you better have some reserve money in case of a rainy day = breaking down or ill tune. Look at the gas prices too.

Yes indeed. When I had my first oil change at Jiffy Lube the guy changing out the oil was like "what a waste man, you're running a stock air box on this mivec?" Right off the bat, I figured this guy knew nothing about this car, but gave him some credential for knowing whatever little fact he just spewed out. So, out of curiosity I started asking him about which type of intake to put on, header's, exhaust, etc...this lasted for about 10 minutes or so. Informative you ask? absolutely not. This guy was fixed on the idea that bigger was always better. What really threw me off was his last comment, "Besides, I don't really like evo's because they don't come with a factory blow off valve."

After thinking about it last night, I did also want to put mods in my Lancer.. But you know, I thought about how much money I would be spending, and after all, I can just pay off my Lancer Es in 1 to 2 years.. and trade it in/put a nice down on an Evo.. And it would be getting alot more packages in the item torwards stuff then it would if I spent thousands in my car.. So I'm just gonna use this car as a DD. :P
tell that guy to suck a dick! he is not paying your car payment or payin for your parts on your car so who gives a **** what he thinks! you do what you want to your car because its yours no one elses!!!
Sup EvoM,
Just went and had an oil change, and the guys there took a look under my hood and saw my intake, and I immediately got stares with the message "Is he ****ing serious?". After they were done changing the oil, the manager of the place came up to me and just told me not to put money into my car... Kind of a downer =/. What do you guys think I should do? I'd really like to throw a turbo into my car and prove that a lancer CAN pull over 200 at the wheels. Just kinda discouraged ya kno?

It's not always about just buying a fast car. There's some joy in having a slow car and turning it into a pretty fast car.
Hey man, don't be discouraged! Like it has been said before, don't take the opinion of the oil change guys with a grain of salt! What you need to do, is follow my oil change tutorial and don't take it back to that place ever again
I don't know your experience with doing work on your car, but the oil change can help get you over the hump of doing stuff regularly on your car. You will have to change it every 3000-5000 miles and will get you in the swing of things to want to do more stuff ::cough::BOOST::cough::::cough::

Everyone wants their car to be unique. Say a bit about themselves. But you bought this car cause its durable and has a (at least in canada) 10 year warrenty. Throw a turbo and your investment is gone. Carbon Fiber Hood, Trunk, CAI, Exhaust. Little knicknacks will add HP, Personality and style. Tint your windows, Add some lighting. Change out the dash style, pick a different color.
-Theres always going to be someone faster then me.-
it's tough to swallow but it's okay. I'll keep my RA over 200Hp and install some sound.
