Everyone knows you lose torque opening the exhaust up, even the manufacturers of exhausts know this and openly admit it.
Companies will make what they can sell, enough said. Am I mad at the companies who made my parts? No, I wasn't expecting to put down massive numbers and I treat my lancer as a learning experience. My money wasn't wasted as I know a million times more about cars know than I did when I first decided to get an intake.
Simple answer, yes, unless you go turbo you might as well not bother, at least if making big power is your only concern. We have known this for some time.
Our motor responds poorly to mods (IMO) because it's A. an older motor, B. not designed to be a performance motor and C. it's already pretty well maxxed out from the factory. The 4G94 is basically just the 4G93 from the mirage bored out to make a 2.0 liter motor. This is why we can't run massive boost like the mirage boys can and why we can't rev anywhere near as high as the mirage boys can. Our motor was designed for fuel economy not to be a sports car. Mitsubishi is also not known for it's NA motors. Just think about all the mitsubishi cars you know of, have they ever made a truly outstandind NA motor like honda has? No, mitsubishi is traditionally a turbocharger company.
We've known the magnaflow dyno is BS for some time now.

that will work about as good as seeing some old lady wearing a push up bra, and screaming taht to her, because YOU KNOW those things aren't ridding high after that many miles.

okay, so heres another question for ya, lol, comparing gregivg and ambys dyno...

greg, you had SRI and High compression pistons...

and amby, you had that PLUS sevral other bolt ons? correct?

so why is gregs dyno SIGNIFICANTLY higher than yours...shouldnt it be the other way around, i mean, they were both at the wheels...similar mods...anyone?

gregs dyno is more of what i would expect.

Something to keep in mind, I'm in Calgary so altitude is probably playing a role in my less than stellar results. According to http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_hp_dp.htm I'm at about 90% of what my power should be at if I was at sea level and all that jazz. That number is also based on today's weather information, the temperature was higher yesterday so I could have been as low as 85% of what I should have been at.

I'm doing it to learn more about my car and hopefully save some money in the long run on gas - your basic NA bolt-ons will add a couple more MPG depending upon how you drive and if you plan on running your car into the ground you are going to make that money back at some point.

^Agree, unless you plan on going turbo don't bother with any more mods. Just to give people an idea of how expensive my route was, I probably paid over 500$ for each hp.

I have been trying to tell people on this forum not to buy n/a mods forever. It's just a waste of money and a gimmick. Whoever wants to be the fastest n/a lancer is a joke. Go ahead and spend 8grand on like 30whp. I totally agree with Amby- F/I or no engine mods for the lancer, you are just throwing money away. Vendors might lose some sales because of this thread but the public deserves to know the truth.

Vendors have no reason to fear this thread, most of their mods work with both NA and turbo applications, like TB, IM, etc.. Plus noobs will continue to buy intakes, exhausts and headers while claiming they beat WRXs and such on the highway with their amazing lancers.
