Why? Seriously, why is it so hard to believe? Not to be mean, but this is not rocket science. Cars show a certain amount of HP and TQ when dynoed. Amby's results are in line with many of the other Lancers that used a similar type of dyno.

What don't you get about this? The car made roughly 120hp at the motor when new and now makes 87hp at the wheels. That's how it is.

I wasn't expecting to have a sports car, but I was expecting to get more than 1 hp for every 1000$ I spent, that's simply horrible. Getting an evo wasn't even an option for me 4 years ago, 1. they didn't exist, 2. they have never been in Canada and 3. I was 17 with a 15000$ budget.
At the moment I'm strongly leaning towards a new WRX. I did some pricing online and with a reasonable downpayment I could get into one for 500$ a month plus my mom would actually support my move (very surprising). As she put it, she'd rather see me in a turbocharged subaru than a turbocharged lancer. All I have to do is check insurance, check whether I can afford it on my salary and see what I can get for my car.
Doug, don't worry, even if I don't drive a mitsubishi I'll still be in the mitsubishi family. If they had a decent car out now I'd go for it but at the moment there's nothing that catches my fancy. I would wait to see what the new ralliart or the new evo has to offer but I'm 21 and I'm about to go to grad school (got my acceptance letter today, woot) so it's time to move on to something better.

Just curious, doesn't this also go to show that if you don't tune it, you get no gains? I'm sure if you had it tuned to your mods your gain would have been much bigger. I understand about not spending the money since you're going turbo, but just for anyone else staying NA, wouldn't tuning it get you more than just bolting everything on?

Tuning would help, yes. But it's still NA, so he wouldn't suddenly have 100whp. It would be great if he tuned it and then redynoed, but I can't imagine why he would bother at this point.

Nick - BOOST THE LANCER! OR ELSE! (don't make me come to Canada and threaten you!)...

Modding is addictive..

Tuning would certainly help, if you look at the dyno you'll notice it runs very rich up top, but I can't see someone gaining more than 10 hp with tuning.
Doug, come on up, we can have some beers, go for hikes in the mountains and drive around in my new car (assuming I get one).

Insurance will not be cheap on a turbocharged vehicle unless you go third party.

True but insurance wouldn't be cheap on a turbocharged lancer either (I was planning on actually telling my insurance like a good little boy).

The way I look at my lancer is that is was a cheap way for me to realize a great hobby. I never knew I liked working on cars so much, and the first day I bought my OZ I saw another modded OZ that, at the time, I thought was really cool. So I looked into it and it all went from there. My experience on this site, time under the car, and money spent on mods has set me up to enjoy cars for the rest of my life.

so...Amby, perhaps you did spend $1,000 for each horsepower. But consider how much you know now and how much you'll enjoy that next car. You're set from here. Just be realistic and shake off the lancer shame that most of us come to experience. I would advise going AWD and factory turbo for your next car. It'll be an evo or wrx for me in 2 years or so.

That is a great way of thinking about it too. This site was the best modification to my lancer and it was free.

Same here, I have definitely learned a lot researching my car and working under the hood, but, it seems like for the time, effort, and money that you should have a bit more than 5 HP to show for it. Even if you are taking in to account improved fuel economy - which in all honestly will not show until you own the car for years it is still one of those things where you kick yourself at the end of the day.
