I know the power and handling of the EVO... but what I've noticed, the ES is the best handling car besides the EVO I've owned and drove. But on top of all that....

The EVO runs 13s 1/4 mile stock.
The ES runs 15s 1/4 mile mildly modified.

Road course is a different story.
You must not have driven a lot of cars. The lancer (old generation) was a decent performer but was not exceptional (especially the ES). A lot of cars could run circles around it simply because they were designed to. The Evo is also capable of 12s stock, the ES runs 17s, maybe 16s if you're lucky.

Exactly, a lot of Ralliart guys would be damn happy to hit 15s mildly modified. Maybe if you had very good tires (slicks), got a perfect launch and are at sea level on a cool day you could hit 15.9.

The chitty thing for you lancer drivers is, whether you like it or not, you'll always live in the Evo's shadow. "oh wow is that an evo?"

My reason - First car I'm actually paying for with my own money. Mom bought me both of my first 2 cars, 1 of which only lasted a week because I went on a joyride without my license and mom got pissed and brought it back to the dealership lol. Anyway, I appreciate it way more than those 2, and although I do want something better, I want this to be good while I have it. Simple (or complex) as that... Oh yeah, the first 2 were OBD I - 1989 and 1992. Wanted something new.

Considering a lot of people don't know what the evo is, I doubt that's as big a problem as some evo owners like to think it is. Moreover, of the people who do know what the evo is, quite a few associate it with street racing and Fast and the Furious so it's not like the evo has a great reputation.

True, I knew what an Sti was before I knew what an Evo was, but I'm surprised how many people know what my car is with it being debadged.

Why would we be living in the evolutions shadow? Our cars don't say evolution on it, it says just lancer. I wouldn't say we are behind the evo, but just another lancer living its own life.

It would seem that way, and all of the members certainly don't associate evos and lancers but "common folk" tend not to see a lot of the reality, they see a evo look alike. Especially with the x.

one thing that a lot of evo owners dont want to admit is that their car is, and always will be a lancer..you can debadge the lancer and just leave evolution you can do what you want the car is still always going to be a LANCER evolution since im new kinda to the evo x forums u should see how some people are so close minded about being compared to a lancer. bottom line is look alike or not true car enthusiast will know a lancer from a lancer evo.

True but they're fundamentally different cars. Saying that the lancer is always going to live in the evo's shadow is like saying that the 3-series is always going to live in the M3's shadow or the Neon is always going to live in the SRT-4's shadow.

Obviously the evo is a lancer, were talking semantics now. And i was using the example of kids coming up to a lancer not a Car and Driver rep. I wasn't saying anything disrespectful towards lancer drivers. Someone made a good point that to take a non turbo'd bottomline car and make it fast is more of an achievement that to take a already fast car and make it faster.

i honestly don't really care about the evo. yeah its fast, yeah its sportier, but that's where the pricetag comes in. i'd rather have a cheaper good looking car with a bunch of features like the lancer. when i mod it, i'm just making the car a lil faster to combat cars in my class, not cars in the evo's class. just sayin
