I got awesome mileage driving through the mountains using 94 octane gas from chevron this weekend, compared to junk 87 octane (probably 30% better mileage)

Now what do you mean by Extremely low? When the gas light comes on... is that extremely low (there is still 2-3 gallons of gas in there). Or are you refering to the rare occasion (which was last night) where I drove 60 miles with the gas light on so I could make it to shell to try their gas.

So I want to know if I can still get gas when the light comes on... or if it is important for me to do this before the gas light. To me, 2-3 gallons of gas left isn't extremely low... but i could have a scewed view on things, so for the integrity of my car let me know how I should maintain it.

You must have been driving differently because octane has nothing to do with gas mileage.

I used to get 100miles to the tank. And I'm not talking 3/4 tank...I mean running on fumes.

Get gas when the light comes on. Dont run 60 miles past hehehe. you can run a gallon more (25-30 miles) but try to keep a gallon or 2 in your tank (Preferably 3-4 gallons).

there is one reason you should not run it low if i remeber corectly from college. first ... the crud rumor is false... it all falls when the gas settles that is why there is a filter. the main reason why he quoted it was not a good idea if becasue when teh pump runs dry even for a split second.. it has the chance to make a spark(as teh mump is looks exacly like an alternator on the inside with metal circling around other metal causing friction(sometimes) and there for making a spark). now this never made sense to me.. however if a spark is made while the gas is surrounding the pump there is no oxygen.. which means no explosion. when there is very little gas you have fumes which ignite even easier than regular gas. how much of this is true i do not know... but its one of few thing i learned in college.

just my 2 cents

can any one confirm this(would like to know the real story as this theory sounds interesting)

Talking Lancer Gas Mileage.

Hey i have a question, I have a 2002 Lancer ES and I recorded the miles on my Trip Meter, I filled it up, and its almost to the end not much left at all, and I am at 214 Miles. I don't drive much on the highway either, shouldn't my car be doing 300 a tank??? What can I do/change to get better gas mileage?????

I have an OZ, it didn't have a good gas milage on it until I changed some stuff. I have intake, header and test pipe now, and I am constantly running 31 mpg. I run a lot of highway too. But still, I get 30 to 31 with A/C on.

I never tested mine but I think its pretty good, nothing is like my old GTI, but its definately better than my Jetta. Tommorrow I'm sending my computer to RRM to be reflashed(I'm calling Rob to make sure in the morning) and its supposed to help milage and POWER,the more power the less you must hit the gas up hills or to just get up to speed. it also changes timming and ignition curves.

Gas mileage typically varys on many differing factors. How one drives, condition of the car, type of traffic one goes through, driving speed, acceleration, terrain, just to name of the few conditions.

I have found that I get about 250-280 on a tank, but that is most likely cause I drive my car like I got my shoes from a concrete cobler. Oh, and I drive in stop and go traffic... so it all has its affect on my mileage.
