All I have on my car is an intake and an exhaust but I'm still getting 280-310 mpg. I usually don't let it get to the point where the empty light is on. I'm wondering why some of you are getting really crappy milage? What kind of gas are you using?

weird, all I run is plain ole regular. Did one tank of high octane on a road trip and it seemed that my fuel milage went down

Dude! Easy solution. Your car uses 87 octane... not 91, no 97, not Jet fuel. It's not meant to run on 91... fly back to about page two of this thread and read what some people have to say about using the wrong octane. You might be damaging your engine by using 91. I'm sure this thread addresses the subject of why our cars are formulated for 87 so I won't go into it.

Unless you are running a ECU upgrade then use 87.

By the way, there is nothing wrong with running on lower octane for your car. It is a common misconception that some how 87 octane isn't as good as 91. Remember we are driving econoboxes formulated for maximum, well not Toyota Echo maxium, fuel economy. If you were driving an Evo or a Corvette or a really nice John Deer we might be talking something different but 87 for the Lancer guys.

All you are doing by running 91 is damaging your car.

PS- don't feel so bad, just use 87 from now on.

btw the Lancer has a 13.2 gallon tank. the gauge only read 10 gallons, the other 3.2 arent read. when ur light turns on u have 5 - 6 gallons left. I read the manaul and saw that 13.2 was weird. and when my tank goes to the E i was only pumping 10.8 gallons... Odd. i talked to the service dept and they said that the other 3.2 is unread by the gauge. and the light means around 2 gallons left.

Hey, OT: What is the best cruising RPM for the engine? 3500K? Say for like 10 hours highway driving? I want to maximize my fuel efficiency.

I usually get $10 of gas once every week and a half when I'm just below the 1/4 mark to get about 3/4th of a tank which gets me about 160 miles. There isn't any good interstate or highways around here and cops are strict on enforcing the low 45MPH to the point of pulling people over that do 5+ the speed limit.
