I'm here defending as I'm the only person here on the MLR commitee, and the MLR needs a bit of defending. I don't know exactly why its been closed. I know the problems Darin has been having, so I'm commenting on that basis.

I agree, any company that is substandard should be alerted to the other members - thats what a club does. The voting and star system could work - It works for the MG owners club for example. That way there is no comments for the companies to complain about. If they say 'We've only got 1 star for service' you say "well give better service then !'
Its a lot easier for other people to see which companies are good and which are bad. I've had dealings with Co-ordsport and found them to be almost singlularly uselss for supplying the correct part (once in 4 orders) But others think they are great.

No one company should be able to control a club, I certainly hope that is not what is happening. I don't think it is.
Wait a few days, see what happens.
maybe as Chunky says, the forum should be more a resource for the MLR members with none-members restricted. Would be a bit tight on a few overseas people however.

PS: you can call me what you want. I'm man enough to take it !
I don't like the idea of any companies having control of a club. Having spoken to darin I know he isn't that sort of chap. If I can get hold of him I'll see if I can get better info than the slighlty bewildering and confusing message on the MLR website.

Angry

Hi mates

just joined in under my old username. Thanks to Michael for pointing me in the right direction.

Just one thing about a membership in the MLR. As I'm no UK resident I can't see why I should join and pay the MLR when the only thing I use is the Forum. For me only the Forum is relevant and the other things given in the membership don't apply to me as I can't profit let's say from a MLR track day or whatever.

It seems strange that the closure of Forums happens that frequently in the UK. I know loads of German and Swiss boards with much harsher comments and never ever a shut down of them.

What the companies which forced Darin to temporariliy close the Forum forget is that we pay'em. Without us (the customers) they wouldn't exist.

Just IMHO

Cheers

Mike

The easiest way around it all is to post a message on the MLR, but not mentioning the company involved, that is simple (I do it that way - maybe I give a few too many clues away!)

Then you can always say that they can email you privately for more information - that way the MLR stays more or less out of it!

Scoobymike, thats the exact point I'm worried about. Especially a I deal with the Early Evo owners mainly and a lot of them are not in the club and many are not in the UK.

The club hasn't folded, perhaps Darin has just closed the board for a week to make everyone think about thier postings, and will return exactly the same ?

Anyway, AntsEvo's is the best suggestion.

I think the point is more about restricting access to the site to established and responsible users, Ants suggestion that this should be members is one way, equally we could just specify who the users are and include our overseas friends

Wow, I can't believe this all happened. Sorry to hear about this guys. Hopefully you'll get the forums back without to many issues.

I think the problem MLR is having is that they have vendors with vested interests in the company and what the companies don't like, MLR cannot like. That's pretty understandable since they need to generate revenue for advertising, club events, etc.

Luckily these forums are not in that situation. If you feel the need to discuss an experience, good or bad, with another company, then you can do so on these forums. We do not allow cussing only because it accomplishes nothing and taints the quality of the posts on the board.

There currently is not a vendor forum, but that could be added if there is enough interest. There is also a suggestions/comments forum that you can post in to come up with more ideas. The forums are really for the people using them, not for my personal benefit.

Here's the link to the Suggestions forum:

Hi guys, I am here too! What the hell else can I do now the MLR has gone down!

All seems a bit silly really - perhaps better moderation would have avoided it, it does seem that you can post anything you like on there.

I am not sure about the "associations with companies" bit - I thought the MLR was independent, doesn't quite seem so, does it?

Freedom of speech is one thing, and we can get that anywhere...

Shame - the MLR was becoming a way of life

Blade, totally agree that it was become a way of life, so easy and quick to use as well which helps)

Still not sure about the companies, as I wonder if there is some sort of deal with the "Tuners Link" they have.

If one of those companies that have their link there get a bad press then they would not be too happy.

Lee,

I think you'll get knowledgeable replies from the people here, cause it's the very same people that were on the MLR site if you haven't realised that yet. Also I think that not only the MLR forum has people that know stuff about tuning cars. Anyway, if there is some reason why the MLR did this then we (the members) would like to know about it which is quite a reasonable request I think, instead of some ridiculous announcement that seems to have píssed most people off. What will prevent it from happening again? This place seems to be safer than the MLR for posting your opinion about something from what KK said and therefore should be less likely to be shut down. The fact that it's independent from companies and outside off UK jurisdiction will help a lot too.

Blade,

welcome to the club (whatever this club is)!! What should this be called? How about "The Lancerregister on tour"? Any other suggestions? I REALLY like the features of this board, thanks for the welcome KK!
