It'll handle it just fine - long trips aren't as stressful on a car as short trips, so no worries there. As for gas mileage, the same things apply all the time. Drive without using the gas pedal as much as possible and go light on it otherwise and you'll save gas. Gun the gas at every stoplight or for ever pass on the highway and your mileage will go down.

I drove the Lancer from Altus AFB, Oklahoma to Virginia Tech, VA. 16 hours straight! I "heart" my Lancer!

Yep, everyone is right. The Lancer holds up nice on long trips. And the fact that its such a big car makes it so comfortable hehe. My mileage was around 270-290 going from San Diego to Seattle.

The Lancer is great on trips. I drove about 3000 miles in less than a month (UT to WA and back twice) and the lancer was great. Best gas mileage I got was 34 mpg!! Cruise control is my best friend!

Yeah, my wife's car doesn't have cruise and after a 10 hour trip I had the worst leg cramp. (She doesn't like to drive on trips, so I drove the whole freakin' way!). Cruise control is my friend.

Last time I had some serious driving, I got 38mpg.

Love the Lancer, love the cruise control.

my lancer always sticks with its 24 to 25 mpg. where ever it goes, city or highway, it hovers around there i dunno why..i wish it would save me some gas tho..but yea, long distant trips arent bad with this car at all. it's a very easy car to drive and the seat is comfortable enough for multi-hour trips. i usually take long trips before autocrosses and i usually have a bag of chips and two bottles of something in the cup holders i love the cubby hole cause i can put my cell phone and my remote in there so i have room for my drinks!
