How does one change the pollen/cabin filter?
How does one change the pollen/cabin filter?
The subject line says it all. I vaguely recall seeing a post where someone said the pollen filter is behind the glove box. However, I couldn't find anything on a search.

Drop the glove box door all the way down (release clip on the left side of the glove box) then you should see the AC blower box with the back of the white filter held in by two screws if I remember correctly. Take out the screws, pull the filter out and put the new one in. If you got one of the rare Evo VIII's that didn't have a filter installed from the factory then you should see the line on the blower box to cut out and slide the filter in and screw it down. Hope this helps.

Here's a follow-up:
Two days ago, after work, I did my 15K service (oil and oil filter change, pollen filter, and rotate tires). It took less than an hour, and the most expensive part was the new pollen filter. By the way, after 15K miles mine was quite dirty, so it was probably worth doing the change. Thanks to the previous posts, the pollen filter change took all of about five minutes while my oil drained.
Once you know that the pollen filter is located behind the glove box, any person with minimal mechanical inclination should be able to figure out how to get at it. However, it never hurts to have guidance. Here are some additional hints (my car is an '08 ES):
To release the glove box, push on the two "buttons" that act as the stops when you open the glove box. They are located near the top of the glove box, one on each side. Press on them so that the glove box opens past its normal travel. With the glove box down you should be able to see the pollen filter housing, as in DEMON's picture. However, you want the glove box down even further to get at the filter. On my car there is a rod under the right side of the glove box that acts as another stop to travel of the glove box. Simply remove the rod from the pin on the glove box, and the glove box will travel all the way down and can be removed if you wish.
The rectangular cover of the filter housing is easily removed by releasing a clip on each side. I suggest that BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE OLD FILTER, TAKE NOTE OF THE MARKINGS THAT SHOW THE DIRECTION OF AIR FLOW!!! You want to be sure to install the new filter in the proper orientation.
Thanks again for the help!
15K service--$20 for five quarts of Mobil 1 5W-20 at Wal-Mart, about $5 for the oil filter, about $40 for the pollen filter (I need to find a better source than the Mitsu dealer), and an hour of my time.
Doing the work myself and knowing it was done properly--Priceless!

Mark did a "how to" thread, whether he wanted to or not.

From the sticker on the box:
AIR REFRESHER ASSY
Part number 7803A004
$40 for a rather small air filter is ridiculous. If anyone can recommend a place to order parts at better prices, that would be great!
