I have an aftermarket headunit and use a cheapo 3$ headphone (male to male cable) to plug my mp3 player (Samsung YP-K5) and my ipod classic in and it sounds fun. I used to have a transmitter that was alright, it faded in/out with my cell phone calls though.. haha I'm sure the ipod adapter for our stock headunit would be fine, though I've heard horror stories of the sony Ipod adapter.

luckily i dont have the sony adapter, but ive heard that the music sounds like a bad burned cd and the music cuts off from time to time b/c it looks for radio frequencies since mine plugs into the cigarette lighter. if it doesnt end up sounding good then i might have to buy an aftermarket headunit with the ipod plug.

I haven't heard anything about the stock headunit and using that adapter.

I bought an alpine and have the ipod connector. Ran it so it comes through my glove box so I just plug the iPod in and leave it in the glove box. Works perfect and sounds great.

My assumption would be that the stock unit would sound just as a CD would since it would be hard wired and not sending through a transmitter.
