Replace brake pads
Metallic clips for brake pads
Hi Guys,
Let me start by saying that this forum is awesome!!!
I am familiar with mechanic works but not really with this car (Lancer 2002 ES), which is that of my GF by the way...
I did a couple of things on her car and while I was on changing the wheel hub/bearings, I went for changing the brake pads. My Bendix brake pad kit came with two clips (the two at the lower part of the picture):

On the calipers I found the other 8 (actually 7, one was missing). But her calipers didn't wear the smaller two? Would you have any idea where I should put these?
I found this schematic but no trace of these two small clips either... hum...

Thanks so much in advance.

I wonder why they sell them in the kit or with new pads if they are useless. Given they are only two pieces, I thought there should be one per caliper at a strategic position. Perhaps on the caliper itself where it closes. I will check that out when I change the right bearing and unrust more thoroughly these calipers.
Excellent forum/thread here guys....and my first post, all the way from the UK
I have a Lancer 2.0 sport Estate and due for a full set of new pads (Discs all round).
Now, i've done a few pad changes in my time, but never had a rear-disc car....are these just as simple to swap or is there other stuff i need to think about?

Am I screwed?
Yes, this is a duplicate post, but this thread has been posted in more recently than the other brake pad replacement thread, so...
Thanks for the great write-up.
When I was re-installing the bottom slider pin, I was torquing it up to spec (83 NM, I believe), when it suddenly gave way. I spun it back out, and it looked like The outermost few threads on the caliper had come separated from the caliper. I spun it back in, torqued it up, made it to about 70 NM, and then it gave way again. At this point, I could spin it in more, but it felt as though it wasn't tightening anymore. I feel as though the threads on the caliper are about stripped, though there is still some hold, since I couldn't slide the pin out.
So. How critical is the torque on the bottom slider pin? Will this shorten brake life? Lessen brake performance? Why is the spec'd torque for the bottom slider so much higher than it is for the top (only 49 NM) in the first place?

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm also changing my brake pads, and had a question regarding the brake clips.
My old ones are old and fell out; I couldn't find any manual or links online that'll tell me the orientation that they should be.
Specifically, if I buy the 8 kit set ( )
then which one goes on top, bottom, inside, outside, driver side, passenger side.
Thanks!

Well you cannot make it wrong. There is a notch (the little tab) coming out of the longer part of the clip, which will have to be on the outside not toward the disc (otherwise i'd touch the disc).
as shown here, the tabs are on the outside (lower left image)
