rev limiter
Rev limiter is set at 130 because that is all that the OEM tires are rated to handle - check the code on the tire - the dunlops on mine are H-rated, which translates to a maximum safe continuous operating speed of 130 mph.

Yeah, but you can't feel it or hear it? I've hit the revlimiter once, and that was one of the most bone jarring things I've ever done in a car. I'd think that you'd really avoid doing that if you're racing, because that does nothing but slow you down.
i don't mean to hit the limiter. i like to hit redline when i shift (whether it is good or bad is irrelevant). sometimes, my hand isn't as quick as my eye. i never try to hit the rev limiter when racing. if that were my ojective, it would make since to just not race. i would save a lot of time and gas by just bending over and having the opponent kick my *** outside of the car.
Lots of bitterness here... i feel ya jon as i'm a rev limiter hitter myself. Take it from me though that you don't need to go there. I have been there enough and had the damage done to be a firm believer in it. It all comes down to getting used to your ride. Take it on by yourself... somewhere you can mosh it yet still check out the tach. Get used to the feel and flow of shifting at 5600-5700. Especially with the Lancer. If you're stock inside you better learn this fast before you are spending time gutting and repairing. Just remember the guy who keeps his cool in the race will usually win flawlessly and easily providing your car is better. Sometimes you lose to newbies because thier ride is just to much. That makes up for thier imperferct driving/shifting!
I wasn't saying he's a bad person, just that hitting the rev limiter during a race is a sign of poor technique, and unfamiliarity with your car. Those things can be fixed with practice.

The last thing people need is the ability to take a car beyond the limits it can safely handle in it's stock trim. It's ****1ng stupid. 130 on anyplace but a drag strip is downright terrible. Your reaction time to something at that speed is fractions of fractions of a second and with roads in most cases being the way they are, a poorly positioned rock can ruin your week, month, year or however it takes to recover. It's all about practical speed (anywhere from 30-90) and being able to get there faster.

130 mph is way up there in spd. 118-122 mph is the max spd that I can drive safely within reason. Also, getting into an accident at that spd is certain death. Our cars are not Mercedes or BMW that were made on the aurobahn to spd or crash.
