Weird Noises, Please give feedback:

I have a 02 ES with 70,000 miles on it. I noticed ever since I bought the car that there is this ticking sound when I am stopped to going into first or second gear. It's more like a "Putting" kind of sound. Anyway my car is slipping like crazy now and the clutch isn't grabbing so great. If I am in 5th gear on the highway going 60-80 and step on the gas, my engine revs and then finally grabs the gear. This also happens in every gear, not just 5th. I also have a lot of trouble getting into reverse. It's almost as if the gear isn't there and it's a ***** to get into it. I am not too educated on Tranny stuuf so any feedback would be great. I am going to purchase the WORKS stage 1 clutch kit. I've read replacing the Throw Out Bearing is a smart idea if you are replacing your clutch so I will do that. Can someone tell me if I need a Flywheel as well? Not to sure what it even does. Thanks for your help.

-Ryan.

a similar occurrance happened to one of my friends trucks when we were offroading. his clutch was gone, just like yours, he would give it gas, and it would rev up and then grap the gear later. also the ticking or whatever sound might be your flywheel, it might be warped or need to be surfaced or you may need a new one altogether.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I don't need both a clutch and flywheel because it's a lot of $. I appreciate the quick response.

im not sure about the flywheel, thats just a guess, there are ,many things it could be. but for sure that is a significant match of a symtom of a dead clutch.

OZ4g94 touched on it. It would save you money in the long run if you do both the flywheel and clutch at the same time because of the labor. With the change of the clutch, flywheel, and TOB, hopefully, the ticking sounds go away.
Clutch=high rev and then catch
flywheel and TOB=ticking (?) I know my TOB makes some ticking noise

Transfer the force from the crank to transmission.

Oh ok. I've read here that the Throw out bearing can cause the putting sound. Do any of you experience this sound as well? I've had it since day one when I bought the car. Also, do they make aftermarket stuts for the Lancer? I know Road Race does but I am looking for something cheaper. Thanks guys.
