is this the transmission drain plug? picture inside...
I've been using Amsoil ATF in my Lancer Sportback for the last 45,000 miles without a problem. I've also been using Amsoil 5w30 in the engine since the 5k oil change without an issue as well. Car currently has 75000 miles with about a 60% highway/ 40% city driving mix. And I'm not always easy on it either...
If your car isn't highly modified, just stick with Mitsu Automatic Transmission Fluid. You won't regret it.
By the way, the owners manual has a picture to locate the drain bolt. Took me about 5.5 quarts of ATF to refill though.

30K, despite the owner's manual, is still a bit premature, unless you're driving in extreme hot and hold weather condition. 60-75K is usual norm. 110K is the absolute max.
As for the auto tranny fluid, H&A guys have their magical, mystery oil from the dealership, as so w/ DSM'ers on their synchros. I believe it's all hogwash. ATF is good enough, read the back of the bottle, just don't use Type J for H&A or F for Ford (pulling from memory, which can be wrong).
Mobil 1 Syth tranny fluid is too slippery. It makes the car downshifting WAYYYY too early, and it makes the ride choppy and abrupt. I experienced it on my mirage, and I changed it within 5K miles. Then, I experienced this on a 2000 Silverado Crewcab that never wanted to shift into OD on HWY speed. It kept wanted to pull the rpms lower to save MPG. LAter, I wind up using Valvoline semi-syth w/ a lot better result on the mirage.
BTW: If the tranny oil is still blood red, it's still good. If it starts to have some browning issues, start changing. If it's golden as new motor oil, you have toasted the tranny fluid.

I flushed my auto tranny qith Quaker State ATF . . . I haven't noticed any problems in shifting
I changed the oem tranny fluid at 30K miles (the fluid was a reddish-brown) . . .The quaker State was red . .. used the procedure posted on this site - worked like a charm!
The only messy part (because I did the job alone), was when you disconnect the AT hose near the rad, and run the car for the minute to pump out the fluid.
